Nassau County officials are meeting to analyze why the county's 911 system became overloaded during the weekend Nor'easter.
County Executive Edward Mangano has ordered an immediate review.
During the height of the storm, Mangano says some of the estimated 10,000 Nassau County 911 calls were transferred. They landed in emergency centers in nearby Suffolk County -- or as far away as Albany. Typically, the system gets about 2,200 calls a day.
Mangano says officials "cannot let another day pass by without addressing this situation."
He was expected to meet with emergency management officials on Monday to determine why the system was swamped.
New York City experienced the second-highest volume of 911 calls ever in a 24-hour period -- 65,000 between 11 p.m. Friday and 11 p.m. Saturday.

The fourth sentence answers the question.
They were prepared for X number of calls and they received Y number of calls.
Do they really need a blue ribbon panel to figure this out?
These people better get a grip and figure out how to survive on their own. The government can’t fix everything and even if they could, they’ve always proven themselves as doing a poor to terrible job of it.
Maybe what’s REALLY needed is an ad campaign advising people that just because they are scared and uncomfortable, it’s not an “emergency”.
This includes the aforementioned McNuggets.
“911, what is your emergency?”
“I’ve lost my high speed Internet connection - HURRY!!”
When you call 911 because you don’t have a gun, the cops always come 10 minutes too late.
I’m trying to figure out why anyone would call 911 during a strom unless someone was hurt? They aren’t going to come and help if a tree falls in your house or car, that is what tree services are for. Roof blows off your’s or your landlords problem. Do they think 911 can stop the wind or something?
I think an ad campaign would help, but, who knows. It’d certainly be better than waiting on the government to do something. Our society as a whole, has become clueless as how to take care of themselves. We as a nation have become to soft, which really is dangerous. People need to learn how to survive on there own, for at least a week, maybe longer, forget about waiting on the government.
True.
When the power goes out at my home, the kids cheer and we light candles and the fireplace. If they’re “lucky”, we get to cook SPAM on the camp stove ;)
Better to be armed yourself. Our church got together and many of the men went and got their right to carry license. My hubby was one of them. Glad he did it. I was going to go too, but, was sick at the time. I can still shoot though :)
We cook burgers on fireplace coals, not spam on the camp stove. :)
Unless its raining buckets or too windy to keep the gas grill going there will be venison steaks.
