Talk about getting ready to fight the last war, rather than the next.
The Russian Navy needs an SSGN for what exactly?
Said differently, couldn’t this money be better spent on say... anything in the world other than an SSGN?

Among the many reasons why we should immediately open up *all* our known (and suspected) oil reserves is that doing so would cause an immediate, sharp drop in oil prices...thus denying dangerous states like Iran,Venezuela and the USSR the ability to buy thousands of jets, missiles, subs, etc.

There are now so many subs in the ocean that it represents a naval buildup not seen since just prior to World War I, with its battleships.
33 nations are believed to have submarine warships. China and the US alone both have about 65-70 each. Many other nations have purchased very quiet diesel electric boats that represent a serious threat to surface ships.
This suggests that there is soon going to be a major push for submarine killing technologies.

Graney-class nuclear submarines combine the ability to launch a variety of long-range cruise missiles (up to 3,100 miles or 5,000 km) with nuclear warheads, and effectively engage submarines, surface warships and land-based targets. Jack of all trades, master of none.

General confirution...
This boat, with a crew of 50, sounds significantly more automated than the previous Soviet-era boats, or even the current U.S. Virginia class.
