William A. Barclay said Sunday he will not seek the Republican nomination in the 23rd Congressional District and instead will campaign for re-election to the state Assembly.
"As the days went by, increasingly I came to realize that something was gnawing at me," the Pulaski politician said in an e-mail to supporters. "You can sum it up with one simple word: duty."

Has any candidate signed up to the House seat yet?
Thank stupid fat RINO’s Newt and Dede for losing NY-23. Go to h*ll Newt aka friend of McCain.
It says Doug Hoffman is running in the Republican primary. I read earlier that he only ran independent because DeDe was too liberal.
Two republican candidates so far, Hoffman and Matthew Doheny.
Yeah, but I meant have others taken up the cause? Or is that it?
Personally, I don’t think Doug is that strong a candidate, not my first pick anyway.
I guess I should type slower.
Who is Matthew Doheny, you know anything about .... I would like someone good to step forward, or be pushed forward to win that race back.
True, and in that special election, there was no primary.
My money’s on Doug Hoffman. Good man, and conservative.
His TV presentation is lacking, at least from afar, that’s my complaint. Are you there? Have you met with him?
I know he talks Conservative ...
That is true, but he ran a very good race last time around and may have won if Dede had not dropped out and endorsed Owens. I think Hoffman deserves a clean shot at it this year. He's doing the right things to get Republicans solidly behind him this year, and I think he'll blow out Doheny in the primary.
Obama’s TV presentation allows him to lie staight-faced to the American public. I much more prefer a down-to-earth individual like Hoffman. His district is about 15 miles from where I live. He stands for Conservative Priciples and is a true Republican, not a RINO. He is a man of the people, not a lawyer and investment advisor on Wall Street, like Donheny. By the way, if your worried about his presentational skills, he has polished his delivery and message much more than last year. Get behind a real canidate that would help Conservatism in New York State.
He ran on the Conservative line, a NY State party which was created by Wm. F. Buckley because of the RINO nature of the Rockefeller Republican Party in NY.The Conservative Party nearly placed second in the gubernatorial race once. The Republicans were scared because that would have relegated them to Row C on the ballot.
