If you get most of your political discussion here at FR, you are discussing issues in somewhat of a hermetically sealed environment. Because supporters of RINO candidates are banned here if they get too vocal, or keep their preferences to themselves, Freepers may underestimate the support those RINOs would get from the Republican electorate out there in the big blue room.

Here are the facts of life in 21st Century America. (If you have a Time Machine in your house and live most of your life in the 1940's, the 1950's or the 1980's, your mileage will definitely vary.)

In 21st Century America, only 27% of all voters are now Republicans.

Independents, who are slightly to the Left of Center or slightly to the Right of Center, far outnumber Republicans at 36% of all voters.

Of the Republicans, 60% consider themselves "Conservatives".

So, let's do the arithmetic:

What percentage of all American voters will pass the Politically Pure Test on Free Republic and not be called "RINO's", or worse?

Answer: 60 percent of 27 percent = 16.2 percent.

What percentage of American voters will be vilified as "RINO's", or worse, on Free Republic?

Answer: 100 percent - 16.2 percent = 83.8 percent

Whether we like it our not, the other 83.8 percent of American voters are allowed to vote for President also and they do vote.

Whether rabscuttle385 likes it our not, the other 83.8 percent of American voters will not pass the Political Purity Tests that he insists upon.

What do you call an election where our candidate passes rabscuttle385's Perfect Political Purity Test but fails the Acceptability Test of the other 83.8% of all American voters?

Answer: An electoral defeat of Biblical proportions.

Before and during the primaries, anything goes. Support whatever candidate floats your boat.

However, after the primaries are settled, the choice is crystal clear:

A.) To the Right of Barrack Hussein Obama

or

B.) Help put Barrack Hussein Obama into the White House.

Rabscuttle385 chose Option B in 2008 because he couldn't always get what he wants. Chosing Option B doesn't seem to bother him too much as I can't ever recall a single post of his that ever attacked Barack Obama. Rabscuttle385 seems to hate candidates that are twelve feet to the Left of him much more than he hates candidates that are one hundred miles to the Left of him.

Come November of 2012, I will vote Option A, no matter who the candidate is.

If helping Barack Obama become a one-term President makes me a "RINO", then so be it.

You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
Well, you just might find
You get what you need

Try looking at the numbers without your own agenda. 40 percent of voters view themselves as conservative. Many are no longer Republicans because the GOP has drifted so far away from its core principles.

So if the GOP returns to its base, it only need to pull in 11 percent of the rest of the base - and many of those will gravitate towards the party over Dem fiscal excesses, abortion and gun rights.

You are using 2008 data, which has already changes considerably in favor of Republicans and conservatives. A recent Gallup survey indicates that 40% of Americans view themselves as conservative, 35% as moderate and 21% liberal.

You invited it, so yes I'll call you a RINO. When you play to tie, you ususlly end up losing.
