The furor triggered by the announcement during US Vice President Joe Bidens trip last week of plans to build 1,600 housing units in northeastern Jerusalem continued to reverberate over the weekend, with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calling the move insulting and the new EU foreign policy chief hinting Europe could use trade ties as leverage against Israel.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, apparently taken aback by Clintons sharp criticism, called a meeting of his inner cabinet on Saturday night to discuss the continuing fallout and formulate a response.
Following that meeting, Netanyahu put out a statement late Saturday night saying he would set up a committee headed by the director-general of his office, Eyal Gabai, to investigate the unfolding of events during the Biden visit and come up with regulations to prevent a similar occurrence in the future. The committee will also include the directors-general of the Interior Ministry, the Construction and Housing Ministry and the Jerusalem Municipality.
Prior to the inner cabinet meeting, Netanyahu spoke to two of Israels closest allies in Europe, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and said he realized that the announcement of the project during Bidens visit was a mishap, but that Jerusalem had apologized to Biden and coordinated with him the statement on the matter released on Thursday morning by the Prime Ministers Office.

Embarrassments for housing projects in East Jerusalem? Nahhhh, that means nothing to Uncle Bibi.
We’re still behind you, Bibi, and glad you’re there.
How about a campaign to shame all liberal jews that keep voting for jew-hating democrats?

How dare these Jews imagine they have a right to live in Jerusalem! Who do they think they are?
Amazing...Islam is breathing down Europe’s neck and Obammys brothers in AQ are planing an attack sometime soon....But it’s the Jews and Israel that gets the shaft.
I see it the same way. It's sort of a death wish, supporting and backing someone is categorically against you in his world view.
Maybe the Jews just have some need to be victims. Maybe it's a religious requirement to get massacred ever so often? It could be a genetic cause that makes them want to support someone that wants to “destroy” them. Don't know the cause, but it's sure perplexing to me.
This year Israel will receive about 2.8 billion in military aid and another 3 billion in loan guarantees. I think they should be a bit more diplomatic.
Jerusalem is their Holy City, and it rightfully belongs to the Israelis.
The fate of the 1600 is the fate of 1600:
I’m embarrassed that our people would be making a big deal about it.
Its a housing project. Its none of our business.
[This year Israel will receive about 2.8 billion in military aid. . .]
I hope this includes some of those new 15-ton bunker busters.
That's easy. Just bar drunks from Jerusalem.
Simple solution Bibi: Don’t invite Biden and tell him to stay home. Hang up on Hillary and tell your staff not to put calls through from her. Don’t worry about Obozo, he wouldn’t have the guts to show up in Israel!
This year Egypt will receive $3 billion in US aid, Jordan $1 billion, and other Muslim countries much more. The USA passes out foreign aid to benefit the USA.

Grow up.
