Not even close. See that word there, "faith."
The atheists cannot honestly disown it.
Uh, yes we can just as much as horrible governments built on religion can be disowned by the religious. Do you feel any guilt about being religious because of the oppressive Muslim governments? Didn't think so.
Atheism is a religion, too.
I have no guilt about any horrible government built on religion -
which government is built on religion I might ask?
Nothing in history compares to the horrors of the regimes which declared themselves atheistic. 80 to 100 million dead in the 20th century, killed by their own atheist government. The largest atheist group in history, the League of Militant Atheists, set the stage for the murder of 7 million in the Ukraine. The first thing atheistic movements have done when they got political power, is start going after churches and killing people. Saw it in the French Revolution, with Bela Kun in Hungary, with the Bolsheviks, with Mao and Pol Pot.
Atheism wasn't just something the leaders happened to be. It wasn't an aside. It was an fundamental part of their political ideology. In 1919, Zinoviev said 10% of the Russia people would never accept socialism and have to be liquidated. Christianity doesn't preach stuff like that and the rulers who were Christians ignored their faith when they did commit crimes. Not so with atheist regimes in the 20th century. Class warfare, actively promoting atheism.the theft of all property, imprisonment and mass executions were part of the program they saw needed to create their kingdom of man on earth.
That said, do I believe all atheists are potential Pol Pots? Of course not. But there was a great silence and even defence of genocidal atheist regimes around the world by atheists in the west. Corliss Lamont, the great "humanist", for instance defended Stalin even after the crimes in the Ukraine were exposed.
