Russia to make 1,000 stealth jets, eyes India deal

Russia will build more than 1,000 stealth fighter jets within four decades, including at least 200 for its traditional weapons buyer India, the head of plane maker Sukhoi said on Friday.

Sukhoi test-flew its long-delayed fifth-generation fighter at the end of January, and Moscow said it would be able to compete with its U.S. F-22 Raptor rival built more than a decade ago.

Sukhoi said last week it hoped the fighter, codenamed T-50, would be ready for use in 2015.

"If you talk about warplanes of this type, there is definitely a market for it if we produce more than 1,000 jets," Sukhoi director Mikhail Pogosyan told reporters on the sidelines of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's visit to India.

"We have all grounds to believe that there will not be tough competition on the world market," he said.

He said Russia would produce more than 1,000 of the planes within 35 to 40 years.

After the test flight, Putin said Russia had plenty of work to do on the plane.

Analysts say Russia's plans for a joint venture with India to produce the stealth fighters will likely be watched with unease by India's uneasy neighbour Pakistan and regional rival China

Cause BO told him so.

From what I've been reading, that 10 yr old plane - the F-22 - is the most advanced fighter in the world and it's successor, the F-35, isn't considered as desirable by other nations trying to get their hands on the F-22. I don't know much about this subject but it seems to me that the Russians churning out hundreds of aircraft comparable to the F-22 while we stop making it is not a good thing.

That works out to just a bit over 2 aircraft per month for that time period.

A very interesting article.
I think the F-35 is more designed towards modern warfare the old days are gone when you knew the location of the enemy,in a certain area. The computer system on this plane is amazing and as i said Russia is building a outdated jet model. Imagine the jets America will have designed and built 30yrs from now? Russia does not stand a chance ,now the muzzies that is another story

They won’t. They have no money for it. And will have even less: now that the world is moving away from oil, both Arabs and Russians will be totally bankrupt in a couple of decades if not sooner.

the world is moving away from oil

Your premise may have validity on some planet, but your weak point is:

This is Earth.
