Sitting in an airport, on his way home to Michigan, Rep. Bart Stupak, a pro-life Democrat, is chagrined. Theyre ignoring me, he says, in a phone interview with National Review Online. Thats their strategy now. The House Democratic leaders think they have the votes to pass the Senates health-care bill without us. At this point, there is no doubt that theyve been able to peel off one or two of my twelve. And even if they dont have the votes, its been made clear to us that they wont insert our language on the abortion issue.
According to Stupak, that group of twelve pro-life House Democrats the Stupak dozen has privately agreed for months to vote no on the Senates health-care bill if federal funding for abortion is included in the final legislative language. Now, in the debates final hours, Stupak says the other eleven are coming under enormous political pressure from both the White House and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.). I am a definite no vote, he says. I didnt cave. The others are having both of their arms twisted, and were all getting pounded by our traditional Democratic supporters, like unions.
Stupak says he also doesnt trust the Slaughter solution, a legislative maneuver being bandied about on Capitol Hill as a way to pass the Senate bill in the House without actually voting on it. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me, he says. I dont have a warm-and-fuzzy feeling about what Im hearing.
Stupak notes that his negotiations with House Democratic leaders in recent days have been revealing. I really believe that the Democratic leadership is simply unwilling to change its stance, he says. Their position says that women, especially those without means available, should have their abortions covered. The arguments they have made to him in recent deliberations, he adds, are a pretty sad commentary on the state of the Democratic party.
What are Democratic leaders saying? If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. Thats one of the arguments Ive been hearing, Stupak says. Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life were talking about.
If Obamacare passes, Stupak says, it could signal the end of any meaningful role for pro-life Democrats within their own party. It would be very, very hard for someone who is a right-to-life Democrat to run for office, he says. I wont leave the party. Im more comfortable here and still believe in a role within it for the right-to-life cause, but this bill will make being a pro-life Democrat much more difficult. They dont even want to debate this issue. Well probably have to wait until the Republicans take back the majority to fix this.
Throughout this debate, even when the House leaders have acknowledged us, its always been in a backhanded way, he laments. Im telling the others to hold firm, and well meet next week, but Im disappointed in my colleagues who said theyd be with us and now theyre not. Its almost like some right-to-life members dont want to be bothered. They just want this over.
And the politics of the issue are pretty rough. This has really reached an unhealthy stage, Stupak says. People are threatening ethics complaints on me. On the left, theyre really stepping it up. Every day, from Rachel Maddow to the Daily Kos, it keeps coming. Does it bother me? Sure. Does it change my position? No.
We should carry 50 million pennies to washington and drop them off... Over 50 million... How sad!

Ol’ Scratch rules the Dem Party.
I agree. NEVER trust a dem.
Exactly!! Thank you!!
“Should he be saved from defeat in November for his principled stand?
Hell no, because you’re already letting the enemy win the long-term war.”
You are 100% right. That which supports Obozo/Pelosi/Reid must be sterilized and there are no exceptions!
The focus of who is better off dead needs to be shifted.
Does the aged granma Pelosi have a greater right to live than an unborn child?
There aren’t many politicians who should be saved in November. Republican weakness the past 6 years brought to where we are today, and the Democrats are raising hell.
Who got his vote for Speaker?
I guess if you don't prove your loyalty by directly facilitating the killing of the unborn, the Democrats attack you.
How many must die to satiate these people?
Should we mock you for being so misinformed? No.
Stupak is from MI-1. the U.P. He has no opponent yet. He will win easy. And nobody is running against him in a primary. So he doesn’t need anyone to save him from defeat. Not that you could.
If they can easily kill babies with no conscience (who for about 50 or 60 years would contribute to Social Security) do you think they will even blink at killing grandma or grandpa who are a drain on Medicare and Social Security? Grandma and grandpa aren’t nearly as cute as a baby either.
Why on earth would anyone want an entity making life and death decisions when they have the actuarial advantage to kill you?
Rep. Stupak: Democratic Leadership Admitted They Want to Fund Abortion (VIDEO)

Call it what it is GENOCIDE of the Unborn, abortion is a benign word in the public’s mind, where as all know what GENOCIDE is.
Dems to my grandchildren - “Drop dead!!!”
Stupak should open his eyes. It's not only a beginning of life issue. It's an end-of-life issue. They want to eliminate a lot of people at the other end of life's spectrum also. How many older Americans will perish because their quality of life doesn't meet the Democrats' standard to receive health care services they need?
Old people cost even more in upkeep than newborns, so all the Boomers headed for Social Security and Medicare can kiss their overpriced asses goodbye right now.
Collectivism is a death cult.
So I guess the ideal society for a liberal democrat would be one with no people in it.
Rename, repackage, rewrite it a tad smaller, and sell another pig in a poke. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. Health Care Rationing for Seniors Another Problem in New
Obama Plan

Balch calls that “genuine chutzpah” because the Obama plan makes that claim “even as it imposes what will be ever-increasing rationing on senior citizens.”
The Senate health care bill already contains provisions that threaten to ration lifesaving medical treatment for seniors.
NRLC says state commissioners of the new health insurance exchanges created by the bill would be given significant power. They could deny people who are trying to obtain policies in the exchange the option of choosing health plans less likely to deny treatment, by limiting what they would be allowed to pay for such policies.

Slashing Medicare to pay for healthcare reform an ugly shell game
Dr. Stuart M. Shapiro,
July 27, 2009
http://www.mcknights.com/slashing-medicare-to-pay-for-healthcare-reform-an-ugly-shell-game/article/140656/
If the cost is by cutting Medicaid and Medicare, then taxpayers are in for a rude awakening when millions will retire without money to pay for their healthcare. Ransoming seniors’ long-term care for immediate, large-scale health reform is more politically beneficial for its supporters in the short-term than it is reasonable for everyone in the long run.
In fact, even in the short-term, one could argue that taxpayers, including the elderly, are looking at an old-fashioned shell game from Washington. No sooner was the ink dry on the federal stimulus package, which provided millions of dollars to support care for the elderly in Pennsylvania, before Congress and the administration began to propose major cuts in Medicare to finance healthcare reform. Because Medicare payments support quality care in our nation’s nursing homes, the proposed cuts nationally approaching $50 billion in Medicare payments for the care of the elderly is guaranteed to undercut the quality gains of the past decade. In Pennsylvania, if the proposals currently on the table are enacted, these policies would result in an almost 10% reduction in cumulative payments over 10 years, or more than $2.1 billion.
None of the answers on healthcare, Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare is easy. But there is one thing we do know: Our population is growing older, and doing so rapidly. Cutting money from the programs that finance care for Pennsylvania seniors is seriously flawed. There is no simple or single solution. But there is a wrong way, and taking money from the care for American seniors is deeply flawed.

those baby boomers are going to get a very ugly history lesson repeat about what happened in WW II.

Not enough Democratic congressmen know history....as in The French Revolution...Marie Antoinette..”let them eat cake”...type of history.
Its best for all they be reminded of it BEFORE they vote......
