Documents released today by Judicial Watch reference serious allegations of corruption and voter registration fraud by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform (ACORN), as well as the Obama administrations decision to shut down a criminal investigation into these matters.
Two specific complaints were filed against ACORN for alleged voter fraud in October 2008 by Lucy Corelli and Joseph Borges, Republican Registrars of Voters in Stamford and Bridgeport, Connecticut, respectively. As part of its continuing investigation into alleged criminal activities of ACORN, Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents concerning this matter with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to Corelli, on August 1, 2008, her office received 1,200 ACORN voter registration cards from the Secretary of States office. Over 300 of these cards were rejected because of duplicates, underage, illegible and invalid addresses, which put a tremendous strain on our office staff and caused endless work hours at taxpayers expense. Corelli claimed the total cost of the extra work caused by ACORN corruption was $20,000. Likewise, Borges contended that: The organization ACORN during the summer of 2008 conducted a registration drive which has produced over 100 rejections due to incomplete forms and individuals who are not citizens
Among the examples cited by Borges was a seven-year old child who was registered to vote by ACORN through the use of a forged signature and a fake birth certificate claiming she was 27-years old. By burdening these election officials with fraudulent registrations, ACORN put those who legally registered at risk of not being put on voting rolls at all.
The FBI and DOJ opened an investigation. However, the Obama Justice Department, while noting that ACORN had engaged in questionable hiring and training practices, closed down the investigation in March 2009, claiming ACORN broke no laws.

Don't get me wrong, Acorn fraud tipped the scales in quite a few places, especially those with early voting. It's this statement that I find trouble with, though:
1,200 ACORN voter registration cards from the Secretary of States office. Over 300 of these cards were rejected because of duplicates, underage, illegible and invalid addresses, which put a tremendous strain on our office staff and caused endless work hours at taxpayers expense. Corelli claimed the total cost of the extra work caused by ACORN corruption was $20,000.
If processing 1200 voter registration cards even costs a total of $20,000, we have major problems in our nation. I run an office and we could have processed 1,200 new 'entries' (similar workload) for less than $1,000. I am not surprised we have waste in our government and institutions that work to sabotage it like ACORN, but I had no idea it was this bad.
Congress voted to de-fund ACORN which was a good step and then they were overruled by some judge who said that de-funding ACORN was 'unconstitutional.'
I am still trying to find the article or amendment of our constitution that says corrupt and criminal organizations are entitled to my tax dollars?

Didn’t a judge just rule that Congress acted improperly when it de-funded ACORN? As if Congress is obligated to spend any of our money on a special-interest NGO!

The Community-Organizer-In-Chief is ACORN and ACORN is him. This shouldn't surprise anyone, at all.

This may be the out the Democrats can use to get rid of Obama. This looks like he broke the law by stopping the investigation. I still don't believe Obama will make four years. After the disaster this coming Nov., the Democrats will need someone to go under the bus.

This may be the out the Democrats can use to get rid of Obama. This would be nice, but it is also fun watching Obama drag the democratic party down with him!
Before we get our hopes too high, though, a link between the Justice Department and Obama would have to be proven before he could be considered to be thrown out of office. However, it would be nice to hear those words, "What did he know, and when did he know it?" and "It's not the nature of the crime but the seriousness of the allegation."

You are right. I didn't say what I said to take anything away from the fact that ACORN was responsible for it. It almost seems like typical Cloward-Piven. Endless impossible demands on an inefficient system in an effort to tear the system down, so that it can be replaced with something far different than what our forefathers gave us.

Your post demonstrated that your intentions were pure and in fact if that was the cost of processing 1200 voter registrations, then there is a problem. I could envision, however, that with ACORN gumming up the works, then the staff had to be extra careful, track more things down and be 100% sure before not allowing 300 ballots. I guess I could see a few people working some overtime to keep up with things. Nonetheless, I agree with you that voter registation is an inefficient system that is just begging for optimization.
