Steve Hildebrand was one of the top advisers who helped put President Obama in office, but he has a stark warning for his old friends at the White House and on Capitol Hill.
"I think that there is a real shot we [Democrats] are going to get slaughtered in elections this fall if we aren't leading the efforts to reform Washington," Hildebrand said. "We campaigned in '06 and '08, and if voters don't see that change, we haven't lived up to that promise."
Hildebrand, a highly regarded strategist in Democratic circles who helped deliver the crucial state of Iowa for Obama, is an outside consultant pushing issues such as campaign finance and lobbying reform.
"We went after that culture of corruption, and I don't believe there is a culture of corruption, but I do believe there is an image problem that Washington in general has to deal with. And Democrats are in trouble now and if they don't do anything."
He came to the White House on Wednesday for a quiet meeting with the president's senior adviser, David Axelrod, to express a fear that Republicans are seizing the high ground on cleaning up Washington, on issues such as the ethics probe of Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-New York.

pass Obamacare and it will not matter.
the problem is the democrats HAVE reformed Washington...they have installed the most corrupt congress in US history along with the most incompetent president in US history.
Dems might get slaughtered in the fall - Ya think!
I don't believe there is a culture of corruption, but I do believe there is an image problem that Washington
May get slaughtered? Its going to be the biggest route in political history. There will be no Democratic Party after November. Obama must be stopped before he overturns the apple cart. The only party that will be the winner will be the Tea Party.
May get???? It’s so over for them. They just don’t know there dead yet.
Can’t come too soon
And that took some real doing.
Reform doesn't mean passing Healthcare, cap n trade, bailouts, green jobs, or putting the muscle on Wall Street. Reform is cleaning up the present mess not creating a new mess.
I think “Naked Rahm” will be meeting with this guy today sometime to set him straight.
Indeed it did. I bet Carter never thought he'd live to see the day. Maybe Carter will be less bitter now that he's lost his crown.
Dodd. Conrad. Rangel. Pelosi. Reid. Just for starters.
But yeah, there is no culture of corruption.
pass Obamacare and it will not matter.
You’re right. If 0bamacare passes, prepare for a whole new way of life...and death.
“He came to the White House on Wednesday for a quiet meeting with the president’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, to express a fear...”
Sweet!
Let’s keep the pressure on the arrogant b*stards.
I’ll believe this the day after the elections. The Stupid Party can turn a potential victory into a defeat in no time flat!
Hildebrand and Moore are of the same thinking...
Yep, they are going to get slaughtered. The only question is will they slaughter us before we get our chance.
If they pass health care, we will never overturn it.
The Tea Party movement needs to keep its momentum for some REAL reform -
reform that totally cleans out Washington, reduces the power of the fedgov to strict Constitutional levels, and offers no means for the elitists to control our lives.
This CAN happen, but it will have to happen through the people holding “their” candidates accountable once in office.
But if the GOP elects the same old political hack types the momentum will be very short lived.
I forget who it was, but one analyst on radio commented that people REALLY want to vote for citizen outsiders, only they aren’t on the ballot for the most part. If there ever was a time for normal people to retake the parties and elections this is it. Though it still takes money, it would take far less this time around, because the people are in a mood to seek out the different.
2012 could be a repeat of 1992...an opening for a Perot type. Especially if the GOP nominates Romney.
