DioGuardi Gets Hometown Support
By Elizabeth Benjamin
Former Westchester Rep. Joe DioGuardi has locked up the support of his hometown party organization as the jockeying for position among would-be GOP challengers to Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand intensifies, the DN's Glenn Blain reports.
Westchester Republican Chairman Doug Colety said his committee will formally announce its endorsement of DioGuardi as early as next week. The decision was made at a committee meeting about a week ago.
"We want to give him the hometown support and a very strong kickoff, DioGuardi said.
DioGuardi, who turns 70 this year, is a certified public accountant and served in Congress from 1985 to 1989. He lost his seat to Democratic Rep. Nita Lowey.
"Joe DioGuardi, when he was our congressman, was the only CPA in the House of Representatives and his message from 25 years ago about government spending, deficit spending is the same message that is resonating with voters today," Colety said.
DioGuardi is the father of "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi, who reportedly plans to serve as the finance chair of his campaign if he runs.
Colety said the Westchester GOP received endorsement inquiries from a number of Republicans eyeing a potential challenge to Gillibrand, including: Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, Economist David Malpass, Bruce Blakeman (who has actually announced his campaign) and Orange County Executive Edward Diana.
State GOP leaders are hoping Dan Senor, husband of CNN's Campbell Brown, throws his hat in the ring, but there has been no official word from him so far.

The Dems and RINOs are scared stiff that he'll go back into Congress and stop their gravy train. This promises to turn into a national race. Both Dems and moderate-to-liberals seem to want more of the same, despite ridiculously high taxes, obvious corrupton,
If he will support ALL of New York in an open fashion he has nothing to fear.
RATs haven’t opened their eyes yet to witness the pure hatred the American people feel towards them.
From what I’ve seen on YouTube and Veoh, the man-DioGuardi- is fearless.
Well, if he will support his God given convictions I don’t care what party he belongs to. He needs to uphold our Constitution first and foremost.
Their efforts are vain and fruitless attempts to ward off the tsunami which is going to strike on Nov 2nd. How little do they realize what they have wrought will not just end there. They will wish they were not living here.
