HAMMOND, IND., March 10, 2010 Rob Pastore, local businessman and Republican candidate for U.S. Congressional District 1-IN, will be holding a campaign kickoff rally this Saturday, March 13th, from Noon to 3:00 PM, at Highland Main Square Park.
My candidacy offers both Republicans and Democrats a clear choice to improve the future of Northwest Indiana, Pastore said. The voters of the 1st Congressional District are fed up with the massive decline in jobs and the lack of economic opportunity in Northwest Indiana. The current Administration and Democratic Congressman Pete Visclosky have failed to put people back to work, and to create a favorable economic climate for small business owners.
John Larson, 1994 Republican challenger to Rep. Pete Visclosky, will serve as guest speaker. Other guests of note include Cy Huerter, candidate for Indiana House District 11, and Eric Krieg, candidate for Lake County Council, 4th District. Festivities will include food, a live bluegrass band, patriotic-themed singing, as well as childrens activities and games.
Highland Main Square Park is located on Ridge Rd., approximately one mile east of Indianapolis Blvd. You can learn more about Rob Pastore and his campaign, by visiting the Rob Pastore 4 Congress website.
Thank you for your kind words, sir. Though I must state that the cauldron of corruption is going to be shaken up a bit in the coming weeks.
I just believe that it is wrong to have such “pay for play” in the local politics here. Perhaps it is naivete, but unless we push hard now, and stir it up, we won’t have another chance for 80 more years.
BTW, I have lurked off and on for 9 years here, and had an old account that I think was deactivated.
On the bright side, even if all you do is make Visclosky actually have to campaign this year, you’ve caused the Democrats to expend resources where they wouldn’t have expected.
Your better candidate is Eric Olson.

The problem, which is not necessarily my belief, but rather the perception that any ex-stock broker, financial analyst or banker is self-interested. You would think Republican primary voters would be beyond such thoughts, but, warranted or not, many of these folks find some truth in this assertion.
I would suggest that Mr. Olson concentrate on debunking this perception, showing that his knowledge of financial markets show his needed expertise, rather than certifying personal avarice....this would certainly propel his campaign forward. This is merely my opinion, take it as you will.
Thank you. Although I am supporting Rob Pastore, I want all candidates to play to their strengths.
I am also sorry if my tone was out of line; for all I was trying to state was that the Republican voter base (that votes in Primaries) votes a certain way based on one or two hot-button issues.
I wish all of the candidates represented fiscal responsibility (Pastore, Olson, etc.), strong national defense, etc, with equanimity. But the voter himself tends to vote one Primary candidate over another, by virtue of how each candidate separates himself on 1-2 particular issues.
Rob Pastore has drawn a line of demarcation at ObamaCare (though not emphasizing the whole economic downturn), pro-life stance, and a broad stance on national security. I am only hypothesizing, but perhaps Mr. Olson could expand more on national defense, defense of traditional marriage and emphasize that his financial background means ‘expertise’ regarding economic development?
I am always learning from others. Everyone is free to critique, as constructive criticism is the only way anyone can learn and grow as an individual. I just hope that we all run energetic Primary races here, to let the Democratic Party know that the Republican Party is finally becoming truly viable in Lake County.
