Malpass Files For U.S. Senate Run

David Malpass, a former aide to Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush, filed paperwork today with the Federal Elections Commission as he weighs a run against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

A spokeswoman said Malpass, of Manhattan, has been meeting with Republican and Conservative leaders as he considers whether to jump into what is becoming a crowded GOP race to get the party’s nomination to run against the Democratic senator.

Malpass, who also assisted Rudy Giuliani on economic policy during his ill-fated presidential run, was a deputy assistant treasury secretary under Reagan and a former deputy secretary of state under Bush.

His campaign put out an email today with his biography and a photo.

Others interested in running against Gillibrand include: former Nassau County legislator Bruce Blakeman, former Westchester Rep. Joseph DioGuardi, Orange County Executive Edward Diana and Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef.

A fiscal conservative for NY is a good thing. Go for it, David.

Malpass is a great conservative who has written many tax cutting bills.

A fiscal conservative is indeed a good thing for New York, but Malpass isn’t the right candidate for the job. He’s already proven from his time at Bear Stearns that he’s not as on top of things as he should be, and on top of that he’s seemingly only just now waking up to the fact that government spending is out of control (in 2007, he said “Equity markets have recently lost over $2 trillion in the U.S. and even more globally — many times the likely amount of mortgage and corporate debt losses in the foreseeable future. This is in part a correction from the sharp global equity run-up through mid-July. Current prices still signal growth ahead.”

Have you checked Joe DioGuardi? NY Daily News mentioned him today— former Congressman— father of the American Idol phenom Kara DioGuardi.

I wouldn't know him from that - don't watch it. Hopefully, he's stronger than Cuomo. If NJ did the right thing, NY should, also.

I’ve seen him speak at the Third Party Club (visiting up there— relatives live in Westchester Co.), and he connnected with the people— both on message (fiscal reform, reduced debt and deficit, etc.) and personally. People were hugging him afterwards! I’ve never seen that, not even with George Allen, a favorite son here in VA.

The victories in VA, NJ, and MA have given conservatives real “hope” that the Congress will “change.” And the Dems just seem to on the self-destruction path: Massa, Patrick Kennedy meltdowns. More opportunities!!!
