...but I wouldn't want to go into combat with one unless it was all I could get my hands on.

However, it should be adequate to control a crowd of 4th graders on a field trip.

There was a story about the IRS buying up a bunch of shotguns about 2 or 3 months ago. But the Dept of Education? What the hell is going on?

The McGrath Stock Shock at $58.16 should do nicely:

I did speak with the special agent in charge of the Chicago Office of the Dept of Ed Inspector General office. The work of the IG office includes investigations into fraud and misuse of Dept. of Ed funds. This takes them into environments where they must deal with the criminal element including some bad actors who are armed. Like many others here, I had a hard time connecting the dots between shotguns and the Dept. of Ed. but it is easier to understand in the context of a mandate to investigate criminal fraud.

Every stinking department in the Fed. Gov. has their own armed police force.

The situation went past sensible a looooooong time ago.

I feel so much better now I know my tax dollars are being spent to put shotguns in the hands of the folks charged with educating my kids.

So, the Dept. of Ed has its own investigative service? Why? I thought the FBI or locals (state/municipality) was supposed to be in charge of such things. So, we can extrapolate from this that every (or mostly so) Dept. has its own armed investigative service?

Then they should be taking a local cop or FBI agent with them.

This is BS.

Then they should be taking a local cop or FBI agent with them.

In terms of budget cuts, staffing, training, it certainly makes more sense to take a cop, state trooper, or FBI agent with than to hire, train, arm, and pay salary for 27 individuals who surely would not be needed to go out investigating "bad actors" every day.

I agree with your assessment of BS.

If the Dept. of Ed. has its own armed police force, it's a reasonable assumption that every dept. in the Fed.Gov has their own armed police force.

"For the chirrun", obviously.
