The race for the Republican Party's presidential nomination has started, though the election itself is 32 months away. Even in a place so brash and up-front as the United States there is some subtlety, at least at this stage, about the process. Sarah Palin, beloved of much of middle America despite her limitations, is doing the equivalent of turning up at weddings and bar mitzvahs and, as we say in Britain, putting herself about. However Mitt Romney, the man deemed by America's media to be the front runner, is (as his greater experience would seem to dictate) more sophisticated in his approach. He has written a book – No Apology – and is undertaking a 40-stop national tour to promote it. It looks astonishingly like an election campaign.
The Republican Party is giving the impression of once more being a serious fighting force in its opposition to the Obama programme for America. This may be deceptive. Its opposition to the Democrats, who not only occupy the White House but control both houses of Congress, is based for the moment more on contradiction than on constructive engagement. When Mr Obama won his great victory, he and his adherents liked to represent it as a mandate for change. It is now clear it was not. America wanted to punish the Republicans for dragging America down in the world between 2001 and 2009; and Mr Obama was their weapon of retribution. He has served his purpose now: America has decided it remains a centre-Right country in which Democrats and other breeds of Leftist represent opinion more marginal than is apparent from the noise they make. All that remains is to get the Republicans organised again.(continued)

I was going to be on Sarah’s bandwagon from the get-go but her incessant and unapologetic support of RINO’s really has me in more of a “wait and see” mode right now.

If by RINOs, you mean Senator John McCain, that's called "loyalty" to a decorated veteran that chose you for the vice presidency. I'm no fan of Sen. McCain, but I understand why she might do that. Please name another RINO that Governor Palin has supported.

Like you I can agree that Sarah has a valid reason to support McCain, but given the way McCain’s campaign treated her and given her stated support for genuine conservatives, I do find it a bit distasteful.
I still love her, but I am also taking a “wait and see” outlook.
The only thing I am sure of at this point is that Romney will NOT get my vote.

As I understand it, most of those that treated her badly and later smeared her were former Romney campaign staffers that had been absorbed by the McCain campaign and saw that Governor Palin was dangerous to Governor Romney in 2012. Which is but one more reason not to get behind a Romney candidacy!
Get used to it people. Sarah will run for the Republican nomination. Sarah will win the nomination. Sarah will become the next POTUS. No candidate, party or earthly force will be able to stop her.
Only a ruthless SOB Republican will do in 2012.

I don't have the facts either on the Kentucky race, but my impression is that Rand Paul is more conservative than Trey Grayson and the latest poll has him 15 points ahead of Grayson who was ahead 15 points himself in July of 2009.
I already have a surfeit of reasons not to get behind a Romney candidacy.

I totally agree. Problem is they are very hard to find. I do not see one in the “hopefuls”.
Romney has been defending the Massachusettes Health-Care, that does not make him look either intelligent or honorable.
Huckabee, I will never vote for. Palin, I am not very sure of. I see a lot of the same swooning that I saw for Princess Diana and for not much better reasons.

Not with the present member make-up, the leadership and the ‘normal’ BS agenda (platform). It will take a 180’ turn from the norm.
For a starter: no BS. 100% truth. Will TRY to reduce the size of government. Will propose a 10% cut in payrolls and programs. This means many of the ‘entitlement’ programs will be affected. Nation is close to bankruptcy. Will TRY to eliminate any and all rules, regulations and laws that are handcuffing the private sector, and thus would permit more drilling, more nuclear plants, more refineries and the easing of mileage/gallon of gas for motor vehicles. Without a larger private sector there will be no GDP growth and no new jobs. In addition, will TRY to effect standard accounting procedures and bring all ‘off budget’ expenditures to the annual overall budget. Will TRY to adjust Social Security and Medicare so it will not run of funds in the near future. Many of you will not like these new proposed changes, but a little less is better than no benefits. The days of the free lunches are over and personal responsibility is back in vogue. Will TRY to keep taxes low. Will TRY to eliminate some Departments, Energy and Education as starter’s. The Nation is in a serious financial situation and much of this is due to our poor leadership. Years of deficit spending have created a huge
National debt. The path ahead will be bumpy and difficult, but if we in government, show wise leadership and are up front and honest with you, with your help we can recover.
On April 7th, Palin will be raising money for Michelle Bachmann. Hannity will be promting his new book at the event as well.
I agree...except about the swooning, it is an expected reaction (by some) with a beautiful woman pol who so completely reflects ones own values and lifestyle.
But, imo, SP telegraphed she would not run when she joined Fox. If she would have started a world tour.....now that would mean she is running.
So in the meantime we should be planning our resistance.
