Rupert Murdoch Forsakes U.S.A. - Will Move NewsCorp To Abu Dhabi
David Horowitz's NewsRealBlog.com ^ | March 9, 2010 | John L. Work

It’s official now. This explains a lot of what’s happened recently. Rupert Murdoch is moving his NewsCorp headquarters to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. You can kiss fair and balanced FoxNews good-bye.

Breitbart has the story right here:

“News Corp chief Rupert Murdoch announced on Tuesday that the Gulf emirate of Abu Dhabi is to become the headquarters of his global media empire in the Middle East.

Addressing some 400 delegates at the opening of the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Murdoch said his corporation had started out as a small Australian firm to become a US-based international company that employs 64,000 people.

“I have every confidence that Arab companies can do the same and more. I also believe that Abu Dhabi can lead the way.”

Murdoch said News Corp would headquarter its Middle Eastern global online advertising operations in Abu Dhabi, and move a number of satellite television channels to the capital of the United Arab Emirates from Hong Kong.

“We will (also) establish a production office here for one of our documentary film-making companies,” he said.

“When we look to the future, News Corporation is betting on the creative potential of the more than 335 million people who make up the Arab world,” he added.

I normally like Horowitz, but this is just plain misleading, since the article plainly states that it’s making Abu Dhabi the base of it’s MIDDLE EAST operations, not relocating the company there.

Thank you, you saved me the trouble of saying the same thing. I see this as very positive.

Wait though, I understand what you are saying on it seeming like it’s ‘just’ the Middle Eastern branch of News Corp, but it quotes Murdoch of saying he had hoped to be a US based company...

I’m confused.

So what? He’s putting his Middle East company in the most pro-American country in the area. Many, many American companies are doing it including Halliburton. They must have tax and employment laws that are designed to attract corporations.

I’d rather the Middle East get its news from NewsCorp than Al Jazeera or CNN (but I repeat myself....)

Yep...Horowitz has a history, especially lately, of doing that. It doesn’t help his credibility.

I wonder how many people reading this thread think Murdoch is an American?

I hope this does not mean they will have to cover-up Alisyn Camerota in a burqua...

So they are going up against Al Jazeera now?

"This is good right? I mean, the free market types told me that business should do what’s best for making money."

Maybe. If he thinks he can make a quick buck before the terrorists blow up his offices then I guess more power to him. BTW he is moving his middle east operations there, not the whole company.

Uh, this is somewhat misleading, folks.

Fox will still be based out of the US. Some global operations currently in Hong Kong will now be out of Abu Dhabi.

I noticed that, too. I wondered if that what it’s meant to say.

NewsCorp has many divisions. There is an Australian division operated out of Sydney. The North American division is operated out of New York. The European division is operated out of London. The Asian division is operated out of Hong Kong. In reading this it sounds like he splitting the Asian division into two parts-one that concentrates on southeast Asia and Chinese/Hindi/Urdu speaking peoples and a southwestern Asia/Middle Eastern that concentrates on predominately Arabic speakers. It is a smart business move to do so. Keyword is BUSINESS, folks. In the coming decades the place to make money is not going to be Europe or North America, it will be in Asia. Anyone who understands what is going on in the world knows this and is making the appropriate moves.
