"Abu Dhabi is future base for News Corp: Murdoch

News Corp chief Rupert Murdoch announced on Tuesday that the Gulf emirate of Abu Dhabi is to become the headquarters of his global media empire in the Middle East.

Addressing some 400 delegates at the opening of the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, Murdoch said his corporation had started out as a small Australian firm to become a US-based international company that employs 64,000 people.

"I have every confidence that Arab companies can do the same and more. I also believe that Abu Dhabi can lead the way."

Murdoch said News Corp would headquarter its Middle Eastern global online advertising operations in Abu Dhabi, and move a number of satellite television channels to the capital of the United Arab Emirates from Hong Kong.

"We will (also) establish a production office here for one of our documentary film-making companies," he said.

"When we look to the future, News Corporation is betting on the creative potential of the more than 335 million people who make up the Arab world," he added. "

OK, fine.

Let’s just ignore the Middle East. No news there.

Much happier world if we don’t have to think or hear about those folks.

:-D

BINGO:
The Saudis are everywhere and use their virtually unlimited supply of petro dollars to control almost everything. Watch for specials on about why madrasa education is a good thing. Beck and O'Riley are already preaching that trying to defend traditional European values against islamast overthrow is = being a Nazi. Obama bows to the Saudi king and nobody at fox seems to thing that is a big deal.

Sure there is a lot of tinfoil involved but four different shows on Fox went off on Wilders last evening. Sometimes you need to put on the tinfoil until proved otherwise.

I think this is more of a comment that the USA is about to become a tax hell-hole and a censorship hell-hole

He desires to be out from under the thumb of our coming dictator.

Pretty sad that the arabs will soon be more free than the USA.

As I read it, it looks to be more than simply basing the Middle Eastern operation there:

"move a number of satellite television channels to the capital of the United Arab Emirates from Hong Kong.

"We will (also) establish a production office here for one of our documentary film-making companies," he said.

"When we look to the future, News Corporation is betting on the creative potential of the more than 335 million people who make up the Arab world," he added. "

Looks to me like there could be "more to come" on this. The financial ties are probably deepening by the day.

Just posted this...from WSJ...suggest we get some addition to the title...which is very misleading due to Breitbart:

News Corp. Units Head to Abu Dhabi

It could be misinterpreted, true. However, Brietbart’s title doesn’t say they are moving all operations, or even their headquarters there. It says it’s a future base. Which, if the information in the article is true, would be a true statement.

The wife, or possibly the kids. I think all of them represent trouble. He tried to groom the kids to take over, but seemingly that didn’t work out very well. But I suspect they will probably be the main inheritors. Since they’re of age, they don’t need a trustee.

While I’m sure the entire birther crowd will disagree, I beg to differ with your statement. I don’t show up on every eligibility thread and I don’t always challenge the circumstances of Obama’s birth. Frankly, it doesn’t really matter to me where he was born. I don’t believe he’s an NBC based on his citizenship status at birth.

I believe he has a birth certificate on file in Hawaii. Beyond that, anything else I offer on the subject of his documentation is mere speculation based on logic or my own experience with government paperwork.

It wears me out that birthers jump from one possible conclusion to an impossible conclusion and then take that emotional leap of faith to presumed facts. I hate to see FR’s credibility slowly erode with the perpetuation of falsehoods and speculation.

But, with the threatened zotting of parsy, I accept JimRob’s decision. Perpetuate your theories to your hearts’ content. Label loyal freepers and conservatives trolls until you’re blue in the face. Good luck in your pursuits.

Well, on the FOX news part of this-—

It concerns me, too about the move to the middle of the darn Muslim world. What happens if a jihadi sheik takes over the emirates. Do you think the programming isn’t going to have to change? Or just the mere fact that they are so close physically to so many Arabs, puts the physical plant in jeopardy.

parsy, who thinks this is a dumb move

From a business perspective it makes sense to have an operations center in the Middle East. It cuts down on the costs of covering news in that area of the world. It provides the ability to employ and expose a greater number of Middle Easterners to capitalism. It provides the opportunity to employ those with knowledge of the inner workings of the Middle Eastern culture and society. As Americans, it’s difficult to effectively communicate with a culture so foreign to us. If we employ them, we gain knowledge and insight into how to effectively communicate, but more importantly we can also gain access to experts in their culture who have connections and important perspective in interpreting information and news coming out of the Middle East.

The way I read the article, he was moving more there, than just physical plant for that geographic area of operations.
True, contact with us is probably good for them. Many of their misconceptions about the West are born out of ignorance.

I have always wondered what would have happened if Adolph Hitler had spent some time in the US. He may have come back to Germany with a “Holy Crap! They’re 50 times bigger than us, there’s more of them, they all have guns, they have more factories than we could imagine, and when they get mad, they’re mean as H*LL!”.

parsy, who doesn’t disagree with you if its just the Mid East type operations that are moving there.

He needed to meet the Southern Jews. They have guns. They shoot back.

Supposedly, my great grandfather was a little Jewish boy who stowed away when he was 10 or 12, from Austria. I am not sure how he ended up in Alabama with a bunch of Baptists. But I know he was Jewish. I think it runs in the blood.
