WCCO.com ^ | 3/8/10 | AP

A bill sponsored by Democratic Sen. Tarryl Clark of St. Cloud could prohibit spending public dollars at in-state hotels or meeting facilities that provide their customers with pornographic materials that link sex with violence. Nonviolent adult movies would be OK.

The bill gets a hearing in a Senate committee Wednesday.

The Department of Administration would keep a directory of approved facilities to help employees plan travel.

So is there going to be a government agency that watches all the porn to declare which is acceptable?

Good grief. Clearly doing the important work of the people.

Yes, because only the VIOLENT porn is damaging to society.

What a waste of time and money. Are they going to set up a state panel to review all porn movies offered by hotels across the state and give some state seal of porn approval and reject others movies as too violent? Why not just burn your tax dollars to try and stay warm Minnesota?

Tarryl’s name doesn’t get in the news much so I figure she decided to come up with something out of left field to show her face in front of the cameras.....

It worked.

Don’t know if this is the sort of thing she wants to base her campaign against Bachmann on.

Why not just mandate that the comforter HAS TO BE CLEANED when patrons rent the rooms especially if there are going to be porn films on the telly?

first thing seasoned travellers know to do is to through that filthy thing on the floor.

Unless she has proof he was watching porn on the public dime.

The comforters will probably get cleaned as well as the glasses in the rooms which (at best) are usually just rinsed off by the maids. Sometimes I prefer the discount hotels that give you plastic cuts sealed in plastic.

Is there somebody on the government payroll whose job is to monitor the hotel porn available across hotel chains to determine which ones show unacceptable violent porn and which ones just show the officially government approved porn?

The fact that a lawmaker is PROPOSING this regulation is further evidence that government has already grown WAY TOO BIG!

Glad to know there are opportunities for High School dance teams beyond the local strip club.

And who is going to look through all the existing porn and all the porn that will be created from now on and decide whether or not it links sex and violence? I’m also curious as to how such a link will be defined.

Why public money should be spent for any pay-per-view in-room entertainment, whether violent, pornographic or G-rated is a mystery. How about the state disallow all charges for in-room entertainment instead?

But you will still get "McPaper" - and be charged for it on your bill.

I actually find this just as offensive as the porn.

Of course this will require a panel of experts who will review each film for content and then arrive at a consensus of which films are deemed sufficiently nonviolent for governmental workers. This will take time and endless research (and who will protect these governmental workers from this violent exposure???).

Then another committee will be required to widely scan the available hotels to ascertain what movies they will feature to develop a data base, and this will require continuous updating. A high-tech group will have to be set that up to monitor accuracy and currency to fulfill this necessity.

A third group will be required as liaison between the high-tech group the panel of experts and the government travel agency to see that all necessary boxes are checked and the workers are adequately protected from mean and nasty violent smut.

Of course, these will be plum jobs that will pay well above the federal government average annual salary of $67.000. Also, due to the relentless exposure to extreme violence on the job, they will be forced to retire due to PTS with full disability after just a year or two.

But it will certainly be worth the effort and expense! /mega-sarc

How about prohibiting spending dollars for ANY movies WHATSOEVER for state employees while they’re at a hotel on state business? If they’re there on state business, they’re not there to be entertained on my dollar.
