STOP! There was a sci fi movie about this, and a bad movie it was, in which great sharks battled great squids, moving into the shallows and wiping out harbors here and there. Now DO NOT tell me it was based on real stuff.

I saw both movies: Leviathan with the Peter Weller and the other oversized monster with the “size is dependent on remote depths” explanation is Deep Rising. Both movies are on Youtube..
