Sarah Palin turns stand-up comedian, outshining a rigid Mitt Romney (Sarah:Charming Mitt: Dull)
The Sunday TImes ^ | March 7, 2010 | Christina Lamb

At first sight it was no contest. On one channel Sarah Palin, the poster-girl of the American right, was wowing audiences with her first routine as a stand-up comedian. On a rival chat show Mitt Romney, the early frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2012, was delivering such dull fare that his host yawned.

Writing a book and promoting it on late-night television have become an integral part of a presidential campaign launch. It certainly worked for Barack Obama.

For Romney, the tactic seems to have backfired. He may be ahead of Palin in the opinion polls. But 5.8m people tuned in to watch her on the Tonight Show last week, compared with 3.7m for his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman...

When Letterman asked about his late father, a former head of American Motors and governor of Michigan, Romney went into a long ramble about his “character and integrity”.

When Leno asked Palin about her father, she replied: “My dad — he’ll tell me what kind of ammunition to use.”

At one point Letterman seemed to yawn as he listened to Romney, a committed Mormon and former investment banker. “I don’t know what any of that means,” he said after one opaque answer.

Romney, who failed to shine in the 2008 primaries to choose his party’s candidate for the White House, was later asked about losing the ratings battle. “I need to get better material,” he quipped.

“Not only does Governor Palin outshine the Mitter as a talk show guest, but her history of achievement far outshines that of governor Romney’s. No matter how you look at it, she is refreshing and right. He is a bore and left of center.”

Spot on. Just because he is a good looking gentlemanly guy does not make him a Leader. He has proved he is no leader at the Iowa debates when after raising his hand that he thinks climate change is caused by man - he ended up liking Fred Thompsons answer better and tried to fake he believed like Fred, saying, “I'm with him”.

This video is telling

After Letterman's joke about Sarah's daughter being raped I don't think we'll be seeing her on Letterman any time soon.

What level of purity do people like “saganite” expect? Candidate Ronald Reagan certainly would of failed their test.

I don't expect any candidate in our wildest dreams to score 100% on every conservative litmus test. It aint possible. And if it was, the independents would avoid the person like the plague, and nobody wins without also pulling the independent over to our side. Take it from me one of the original Reagan Democrats, I know.

The people who post and say that Palin has not enough executive experience should take a look back in history.
Lincoln, Kennedy and Truman (aside from two months as FDR’s VP) also had no executive experience, elective or appointive, when they became President.

Woodrow Wilson’s only executive experience was two years as Governor of New Jersey, after which he bcasme President.

Calvin Coolidge, in addition to being Harding’ VP for two years, was governor of Massachusetts for two years and mayor of a small town of 3000 (Northampton)for two years. (sound familiar?) In Reagan’s opinion, as well as Bob Novak’s, Coolidge was the best President of the 20th Century (until the Gipper, of course).

Other Presidents,(Madison, John Quincy Adams, Buchanan Hoover) only had executive experience as appointed heads of cabinet agencies.

Ford had no real executive experience; He was VP under Nixon for less than a year.

That is a list of 10 Presidents, including some pretty good ones who had less than, or equivalent to, Sarah Palin’s executive experience. And I didn’t even count the large number of Presidents (10) whose executive experience consisted solely of being generals in the army. (Only three of the ten were Commanders in Chief, which would at least somewhat approximate the Presidency).

Sarah Palin’s experience stacks up quite well historically, if anyone takes the time to compare it to previous Presidents.

Who knows what you did you don't want the world to know. Palin has nothing to hide.

The Palin critics pretty much show their true stripes when the toss out the "quitter" line. The Democrats were waging a personal war against her in Alaska and as Governor she had both hands tied behind her back. They made it impossible for her govern and raise money for her personal legal bills.

Her decision to resign was a win/win for the people of Alaska and for herself. I've said it before, real leaders improvise, adapt and overcome. That is what she is doing now and that looks like real leadership to me.

Calgary crowd receptive to Palin

By Richard Cuthbertson, Calgary HeraldMarch 6, 2010 10:15 PM

CALGARY— In her first public appearance outside the United States since stepping down as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin went to the heart of Canada’s oil and gas industry Saturday bringing her message of lower taxes, free markets and energy development to a receptive crowd.

While the 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate’s speech in Calgary dealt in part with her push for more domestic energy development, her doubts over climate change science and her view that environmental issues needed to be balanced by economic progress, Palin’s talk was also interspersed with jokes that drew laughs from a packed house.

She noted that soon into her run on John McCain’s presidential ticket that her patience wore thin with the “mainstream media.” She noted a reporter said Palin had a bit of a Canadian accent. Palin said she responded, “So.”

“That interview didn’t go very well,” Palin told Saturday’s crowd of more than 1,000. “Not many of them did.”

She talked of Canadian connections to her family, lauded Vancouver’s hosting of the Winter Olympics and noted the men’s Canadian hockey win over the Americans.

But some of her best-received comments to the Calgary crowd came with her thoughts on energy and environment. She said traditional forms of energy must continue to be developed along with renewable resources as part of an “all-of-the-above approach.”

Her concern, she said, is waiting for unfriendly regimes to develop their resources. Relying on those puts the United States in a less safe and less prosperous position, she said.

“We’ve got the become more energy independent,” she said.

She also brought up the East Anglia climate change e-mail scandal, saying it made “settled science feel a little unsettled.” Cap-and-trade proposals to reduce emissions would lead to job losses and a heavier tax burden, she said.

She also participated in a question-and-answer session with Senator Pamela Wallin.

“Her decision to resign was a win/win for the people of Alaska and for herself.”

She knew that there was a certain segment that was going to call her a quitter and was going to disbelieve her reasoning and was going to continue to call her a quitter even after she proved that her decision to resign had enabled her to have a positive impact on the national debate, specifically on health care. Those peole were never for her in the first place. Most of them are carrying water for Mitt or for BO.

Interesting piece of research, Brices Crossroads! The news media pounds "experience" but completely dismissed experience in '08, so I think it's safe to call it a convenient canard.

In recent times, it used to be that we insisted our CIC's had military experience, and then along draft-dodger Bill Clinton to put that to rest.

*** Before anyone tries to chime-in about RWR, PUNCH HERE before you make a fool of yourself.

Sarah has plenty of experience and good common sense. She also has the ability to connect with people and to speak plainly. Her love of country and her respect for our Constitution and its demands for small and limited federal government make her the right candidate for our side.

She will make an excellent CIC, and she has experience as CIC of Alaska's National Guard.

“Sarah has plenty of experience and good common sense. She also has the ability to connect with people and to speak plainly.”

To that I would only add that she is a born leader. She leads. The Romneys, the McCains and the rest of the backbenchers merely react. They are natural “followers”.

I am looking for someone outside of the political/media complex. Waaaay outside. Alaska Outside. Someone who isn’t part of the system. Someone who writes on her hands instead of using a teleprompter. Maybe you are getting a picture in your head.
