Conservative icon U.S. Rep. Tom McClintock endorsed Steve Poizner for Governor today. Since I am at the CRA Convention, and am posting via my Blackberry, I will include an excerpt from Poizner's press release...
FROM THE RELEASE:
Tom McClintock, the conservative standard-bearer in California and champion of Republican principles, today endorsed Steve Poizner for Governor. In making his endorsement, Rep. McClintock called Steve Poizner the "only conservative candidate" in the race and the only real reformer running for governor.
"I trust Steve to restore Republican principles to California government," said Rep. McClintock. "Steve Poizner is the only conservative candidate in this race and is serious about implementing real reform in Sacramento. I am convinced that Meg Whitman has nothing to offer other than Arnold Schwarzenegger's third term. That is something California cannot afford."

Meg’s stuffed Horse and aRnie’s Trojan Horse both snorted at the announcement.
Still, I think he's a pu$$y-a$$ed dweeb for crying over the supposed "extortion" coming from the Whitman campaign.
Good enough for me.
Whitman went negative so quickly everyone’s head is spinning.
I want Tom, but he comes across so badly on camera that he isn’t viable in California.
Viable? lol
I have a feeeling after aRnie, chopped liver could get elected in Kalleforrrneeyaaa.
Dang, now I’m really confused. I trust the Howard Jarvis group and Tom McClintock. Howard Jarvis is for Meg and Tom is for Poizner. ??? Whom do you believe?
Good question - what a mess.
Does Poizner want me to pay for government funded abortions? I despise Whitman for that stance.
>>I have a feeeling after aRnie, chopped liver could get elected in Kalleforrrneeyaaa.<<
That explains governor moonbeam coming back for a second act.
The last thing needed in Sacramento is someone with no political experience.
There is a big difference between getting employees you pay to do what you want them to do and working with a legislature that owes you nothing. Whitman will NOT be able to solve the problem in California.
If you need more than that, just look at how Whitman screwed up ebay. Whitman is the worst possible candidate.
"A Titanium Powerseller whose incredible sales volume affords them total protection from eBay and PayPal's supposed Protection/Security policies. I approached both eBay and PayPal with detailed evidence of fraud on the part of this seller, with absolutely no results.

Don't do it. Don't support Whitman. Do your homework on Whitman and you will be upset you ever considered supporting Whitman.
Until a few weeks ago, I did not know that Steve Poizner was a Republican. My first reaction to hearing about him running in the GOP primary was “When did he switch parties?”.
I don’t know anything really about either Whitman or Poizner, but did a quick search, and here is what I found about Poizner:
“He is a pro-choice Republican who has been able to reach out to the party’s conservative base.
GOP strategist Allan Hoffenblum believes that Poizner lost the party’s centrist graybeards by moving too far to the right in his bid for the top. When Poizner ran for state Assembly in 2004 and lost, he styled himself as “a frustrated moderate Republican,” who would not say if he voted for George W. Bush in 2000. In his run for governor, however, Poizner courted the sort of Republicans who grouse that Bush wasn’t conservative enough.
Poizner’s transition to the gung-ho side of the GOP, Hoffenblum noted, makes insiders wonder, “Is he another Mitt Romney?”

Tom is a good man and Steve is also. I know there are plenty who say Steve can’t win. Well that will be true if you don’t do your part. If I were Steve I’d be running against Big Government Democrats and Republicans.
You will be just as horrified if Whitman gets into office.
Hold that thought I’ll have to look into Steve’s past a little more.
And a little more research, admittedly not exhaustive:
“Q. Is Poizner dust because he’s so far behind in the polls?
A. His pollster has left him, Republicans increasingly are calling for him to quit and fundraising is slow. But he’s still sitting on $17 million, mostly from his own pocket. If he can spend it effectively - his aides say he’ll start when voters are listening - he could cut into Whitman’s lead.
Poizner could also benefit from those Democratic anti-Meg ads you’ve been hearing. Still, while there’s some precedent for big comebacks, it will take a herculean effort and lots of luck.
Q. Are Whitman and Poizner as conservative as they claim? Is Brown really a centrist?
A. You be the judge: Both Republicans gave money to Democrats before getting serious about statewide politics. Whitman’s foundation also gave $300,000 to an environmental group whose aims she now opposes. Meanwhile, Poizner talked up his pro-choice creds when he ran for Assembly in a Democratic district in 2004. And he supported a measure to lower the threshold for school taxes - anathema to no-tax conservatives.
Meanwhile, Brown is talking the talk, coming down on tax hikes and even cultivating GOP donors. But his agenda as attorney general has been progressive. Fifteen years ago, on Berkeley radio, he could be heard railing against big corporations. And Republicans are sure to remind everyone that this is the guy who put death penalty foe Rose Bird on the state Supreme Court.”

As I’ve stated I’m not trilled with Whitman. But I know what a lune Jerry Brown is. There’s NO question about that. What makes you think Brown would be better than Whitman? Give me something here to contemplate. What facts do you have to back this up. I’m curious about your conclusions. Why is Whitman THAT bad?
I don’t know much about Steve but it doesn’t look good. The guy doesn’t look a whole lot different than the Mayor of San Fran.
