WASHINGTON - Facing a tough political environment, President Barack Obama on Saturday turned up the heat for the health care overhaul that has been his top priority for a year yet has not been passed by Congress.
The president used his weekly radio and Internet address to attempt to sway a public that has soured on the topic -- and especially Democratic lawmakers who are wavering.
Republicans, recognizing the public's mood, are repeating their call to start from scratch on a proposal that would potentially reshape how all Americans receive health care.
"Now, despite all the progress and improvements we've made, Republicans in Congress insist that the only acceptable course on health care is to start over. But you know what? The insurance companies aren't starting over," Obama said in prepared remarks. "I just met with some of them on Thursday, and they couldn't give me a straight answer as to why they keep arbitrarily and massively raising premiums -- by as much as 60 percent in states like Illinois. If we do not act, they will continue to do this."
Republicans were not swayed.

The competing radio addresses underscored the urgency behind Obama's last-ditch push for immediate health care reform. Without a victory -- and quickly -- Democrats move into a fast-approaching election season without a major, tangible accomplishment that affects voters' pocketbooks. And with a chasm remaining between the two parties, Democrats considered passing the overhaul with votes just from their party....
More stress for us all, compliments of the President and his crew. Many of us will have more health problems before these people are finished with us.
There are doubts that it has the votes to pass in the House.
Obama’s socialist version of a chicken in every pot:
* If you don’t subscribe to a government approved food coop, you’ll get fined by the IRS.
* The government will tell you how big and what kind of chicken you’ll get.
* You won’t get your government approved chicken for 4 or 5 years.
Does Barney Frank know about this provision???
But we have to start paying for it now.
Let’s hope and pray he cannot pull it off.
Both now and in the future, when the Dems start working on blanket amnesty for anyone in the country.
Even terror cells will be covered under ObamaCare!
So far he has put about 100 coats of lipstick on this pig.
Funny, yesterday PO__S was “pleading”... today he’s “turning up the heat”? The PO__S propogandists need to get their BS story straight.
Apart from a few hundred pages of BS lip service (preventative, training, etc), the bill has nothing to do with health. It is all about insurance not health care. Insurance is earned through employment or granted to vets or dependents. But this bill would make "insurance" a right so that lots of ordinary care would be "free" and the price will skyrocket and quality will plummet.
Having a right to "health care" is plausible on the local level, for example we have free clinics in two counties in the Shenandoah Valley. Anyone can show up and get high quality care from volunteer doctors, including the best doctors in the Valley. But they can't go there for no reason or spurious claims.
But having a right to "insurance" means people who abuse the system now will have free reign to abuse it more. The few people who go bankrupt now through no fault of their own running out of coverage will be better off, but there are ways to other ways to tackle that rather minor problem.
I would just love to see this stinking POS bill go down in flames and then listen to the wailing of the media propagandist. That would be sweet music indeed.
Actually, the RATs will be much better off if they avoid "affecting voters' pocketbooks" any further.
Correction:
They may be able to sell some congress critters on the benefits of grabbing more power and making the entire nation dependent on the government for health-care medical insurance.
“* You wont get your government approved chicken for 4 or 5 years.
But we have to start paying for it now.”
Putting healthcare coverage on lay-a-way.
Maybe because they're terrified the government will continue mucking about in the free market, YOU ARROGANT BASTARD!
-----
The current 'sickness' in our healthcare system can be traced to government regulations and manipulation of prices, but we're supposed to believe more of the same will make it better?

Eventually, we’ll be standing in lines for shoes.
Right shoes on Tuesday, left shoes on Friday.
