So there was President Obama giving his bazillionth speech on health care, droning yet again that "now is the hour when we must seize the moment," the same moment he's been seizing every day of the week for the past year, only this time his genius photo-op guys thought it would look good to have him surrounded by men in white coats.
Why is he doing this? Why let "health" "care" "reform" stagger on like the rotting husk in a low-grade creature feature who refuses to stay dead no matter how many stakes you pound through his chest?
Because it's worth it. Big time. I've been saying in this space for two years that the governmentalization of health care is the fastest way to a permanent left-of-center political culture.
It redefines the relationship between the citizen and the state in fundamental ways that make limited government all but impossible.
In most of the rest of the Western world, there are still nominally "conservative" parties, and they even win elections occasionally, but not to any great effect. (Let's not forget that Jacques Chirac was, in French terms, a "conservative.") The result is a kind of two-party one-party state:
Right-of-center parties will once in a while be in office, but never in power, merely presiding over vast left-wing bureaucracies that cruise on regardless.
Republicans seem to have difficulty grasping this basic dynamic.
Less than three months ago, they were stunned at the way the Democrats managed to get 60 senators to vote for the health bill.
Then Scott Brown took them back down to 59, and Republicans were again stunned to find the Dems talking about ramming this thing into law through the parliamentary device of "reconciliation."

By unanimous consent?
So the Dims are going support this abomination DESPITE a virtually assured defeat in November?
And they want health care to pass so that government will have a permanent and unbreakable hold over our lives?
This is not going to end well.
The health care plan currently proposed will literally bankrupt the American people. It is as simple as that.
The Democrat politicians are like suicide bombers. They are willing to destroy their careers even their lives as long as they can hurt Americans and weaken America.
Without 2/3 majority obama will just veto it!
Once its put into effect it will be there forever, just like Medicare, Social Security, Welfare, amd health care for the poor!
If we don't have a veto proof majority -- and we won't -- control of one house of Congress would be temporarily sufficient.
After all, if no funds are appropriated for any activities associated with Obamacare, how are they going to set up the framework?
A conservative congress could, however we've never had one. No government "gimme" program gets repealed, they just grow and grow and grow.

What happens to the issue if and when it fails to pass the house?
Just the stripping 500 billion from medicare will make health unafordable for me and accomplish obamas goal of eliminating me as a useless eater!
Thanks for the compliment
Although I have the same sentiments, the reality is that (and I'm sure the Demoncrats know) if the Demoncrats get obamacare passed the Republicans will never get a veto over riding majority to repeal it. See, if the Republicans pass a bill to repeal it, obama will veto it (it's an ego thing to him) and the Republicans will not have enough votes to over ride the veto. So the key thing is to make sure obamacare never gets passed in the first place.

The same GOP of which you speak caved when just one senator went and acted fiscally conservative. What makes you think the same GOP will cut off funding for 0bamacare with the left blasting ads on every TV station saying "THE EVIL GOP WILL CUT YOUR HEALTH CARE."
I move that we support their losses both places. All in favor?
This human has a very confused and unfocused mind. One of the most overrated conservative voices.
Right. As several have pointed out it would take 2/3 each chamber and I had forgotten my Con Law there for a moment.
Just like "gun control" ... it's not about "guns", it's about "control".
I don't know about you, but they don't sound like the same old GOP to me. Mitch McConnell's promise that a GOP majority would repeal Obamacare if it passed into law sounded pretty straightforward to me.
They've held strong so far. And that bodes well for the future.
Maybe, just maybe, they've learned their lesson...
This is total nonsense, for public consumption. Democrats live to slurp at the public trough and pick taxpayers’ wallets.
Here’s my plan:
Dems lose on Deathcare
+ Dems lose in Fall
... works for me.
Quite true.
But in reality, "forever" is only that very short time until our country is completely bankrupted and ruined with nothing left but a putrid carcass for the rest of the world to pick over.
That's when they finally get to steal all the rich natural bounty we have protected with such blood and effort only to then "permanently" lock it up so as not to enhance "global warming"!
