DUI arrest brings scrutiny to personal life of conservative state senator (no proof of homosex)
California Progress Report ^ | 5 March 2010 | Dan Aiello

The latest high profile arrest for driving under the influence in California’s capitol city of Sacramento has brought allegations of hypocrisy to a state senator’s voting record.

Senator Roy Ashburn issued a written apology Wednesday following his 2 a.m. arrest in a state-owned vehicle at 13th and L streets in downtown Sacramento next to Capitol Park and within yards of the Capitol building. Ashburn was booked into Sacramento County Jail and released later that morning.

“I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment," Ashburn said. "I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me – my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."

“We’re very disappointed to hear of another high profile drunk driving arrest in California,” said Silas Miers, the law enforcement program specialist for MADD’s California State office in Sacramento.

Miers said his organization did not work with Ashburn. “In recent history I don’t think we’ve actually worked with his office.”

In fact, MADD’s main legislative focus last year was Assemblyman Mike Feuer’s Assembly Bill 91, which will establish four pilot programs to place Ignition interlock system in the vehicles of those who have been arrested for drunk driving.

Ashburn had opposed the legislation, which was passed and signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Ashburn’s personal life also has come under scrutiny.

At the time of his arrest, around 2 a.m., Ashburn was traveling with a male companion.

The liberal media has been having a heyday with these allegations despite the fact that Ashburn has not even had his day in court. It's also interesting to note that there isn't a shred of evidence, that this father of four was anywhere near the homosexual bar they keep mentioning. I thought the leftist liberal elite were supposed to be so accepting of diversity. It's kind of funny that they're trying to demonize this guy by claiming he's homosexual (which would indicate they are admitting that it's a bizarre, unhealthy lifestyle).

So scandalous to today’s homos that (at most) here we have an old school gay who believes in keeping it private.

I’d be more pissed off he’s driving drunk in taxpayer property.

It appears to me they want to make a point of a possible hypocrisy by the Republican.

My view is that if you hang out at the barbershop, sooner or later you'll get a haircut.

That alone is reason enough to throw this guy under the bus.

Two things:

“...his arrest Wednesday within blocks of the city’s gay bars...”

“...within yards of the Capitol building”

Interesting. So, there are gay bars within blocks of the capitol, he was arrested yards from that building (where he works), and there is a “rumor” about where he may or may not be coming from. Fascinating.

I guess we'll see how it plays out. It doesn't look good for this guy however.

As for demonizing him, I believe it was more for the perceived hypocrisy than anything. Not saying that it's true however.

Perhaps we can ask his male companion.

The way I look at it, even if he is queer, at least he votes against their disgusting agenda. In some respects it would even be a benefit because he would be obligated to vote against these scum to protect his own secret. I don’t agree with the lifestyle choice and believe it indicates a major underlying mental sickness. But the bottom line is that there’s not a shred of evidence this guy is a fag. The MSM in their usually laziness are just spreading that lie.

“I believe it was more for the perceived hypocrisy than anything”

How is that hypocrisy? Aren’t some of the most ardent and successful anti-drug people, former drug users themselves? Does every person who smokes cigarettes have to argue that it’s healthy?

Who hasn’t ended up drunk in the gay section of town?

I noticed the same thing. If he was within yards of the capitol building, he might have just been driving home after a late stint at the office, or a visit there to pick something up.

Or he might even have dropped in for a drink after work at a gay bar if that was the handiest one to his office.

When I worked downtown in NYC, I occasionally dropped into a bar/lunch spot on Washington Square. Nobody bothered me, and I don’t actually know if it was a gay bar or just full of gays because there are so many of them in that part of town. There was no sign outside that said “gays only.” I went there occasionally because the food was good, cheap, and convenient.

My daughter in law lives in Bakersfield and says that he is a father of four beautiful young girls. She says that he’s never once seemed faggy and in fact is the epitome of a good father. I think the bottom like is that until there is some kind of proof, this man has been a good father and defender of traditional values and upbringing.

So I guess that just because you are a gay man doesn’t mean you will act “faggy.” You can even have kids! Four of them!

I guess this mwans that you just can’t tell who’s gay by the way they behave. Nor can you tell by the type of political positions they argue for.

Some married father in the pew next to you may be gay. But his public behavior or speech will never let on.
