Krugman Agrees with Senator Bunning

Krugman Agrees with Senator Bunning [Daniel Foster]

James Taranto has a great take-down of Dr. Krugman today. Apparently the conscience of a liberal is schizophrenic:

Former Enron adviser Paul Krugman takes note in his New York Times column of what he calls "the incredible gap that has opened up between the parties":

Today, Democrats and Republicans live in different universes, both intellectually and morally. "What Democrats believe," he says "is what textbook economics says":

But that's not how Republicans see it. Here's what Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona, the second-ranking Republican in the Senate, had to say when defending Mr. Bunning's position (although not joining his blockade): unemployment relief "doesn't create new jobs. In fact, if anything, continuing to pay people unemployment compensation is a disincentive for them to seek new work." Krugman scoffs: "To me, that's a bizarre point of view—but then, I don't live in Mr. Kyl's universe."

What does textbook economics have to say about this question? Here is a passage from a textbook called "Macroeconomics":

Public policy designed to help workers who lose their jobs can lead to structural unemployment as an unintended side effect. . . . In other countries, particularly in Europe, benefits are more generous and last longer. The drawback to this generosity is that it reduces a worker's incentive to quickly find a new job. Generous unemployment benefits in some European countries are widely believed to be one of the main causes of "Eurosclerosis," the persistent high unemployment that affects a number of European countries. So it turns out that what Krugman calls Sen. Kyl's "bizarre point of view" is, in fact, textbook economics. The authors of that textbook are Paul Krugman and Robin Wells. Miss Wells is also known as Mrs. Paul Krugman.

“the incredible gap that has opened up between the parties”

Hey, Krugman... this is why we have federalism. You left wing nut jobs can have your socialist utopia in the Northeast, and we’ll run the rest of the country efficiently. You have no right to tell us how to run our states.

It was actually Mrs. Krugman who wrote that passage - indeed the entire textbook.

He didn’t write a single word.

Hey Krugman,, your textbook economics are just about as believable as textbook climate “science”.

Your cr*p didn’t’ work in the past, is not working now, and will never work.

If you had a real education in something like science - you’d figure this out. Note: Climate “science” is an oxymoron. And your type of economics is most definitely not even close to science.

Don’t tout your Nobel joke, Gore and the Obamaloon have ones, too.

Don't ever expect "public intellectuals" — to use Dr. Sowell's term — to be logically consistent. Or even fully rational, for that matter. They contradict themselves all the time. And feel no shame for their lack of intellectual integrity. Their buddies always cover up for them anyway.

They are mental schizophrenics, in my view. Their difficulty seems to lie in their inability to reconcile the fact that they've got one foot in First Reality (necessarily, for that is where "biological" and "social" human beings actually live), and the other, in the Second Reality of an abstract ideology. The two simply do not correspond. The strain of insisting that the Second Reality is "true" against all objective evidence (which comes from First Reality, mind you) must cause severe psychological problems sooner or later.

Just my humble opinion, FWIW.

Thanks so much for the post, greyfoxx39!.

It’s too late, Bunning blew his big chance.

He should of said ... SURE i’m for unemployment benefits being extended indefinitely... I’m also for free sports cars for everyone, free mansions, free plasma TV’s, and even free skittles! But who’s going to pay for it? because in case you haven’t been paying attention recently WE’RE BROKE! In fact, we are worse than broke... THIS NATION IS BANKRUPT! So... you can take your socialist sob stories and shove them up your you know what! Because I am standing up for America! Even if I stand alone!

If he had said that, he could of been the next president, and saved the country.

So very true!

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!
