The Houston area lost 102,800 jobs from December 2008 to December 2009, a loss of 3.9 percent, the commission reported.
The commission also reported today that the local unemployment rate shot up to 8.8 percent in January from 8.2 percent in December.

Houston PING
To bad normal people have to suffer because the idiot voters here kepp putting Dummies in office.
I think this should be a Perry Campaign ad.
Thought you might have an interest here.
Was this by chance ‘unexpected’?
South Louisiana is not much better.
Petrochem & oil/gas industries are not doing anything in fear of what the zombies in Washington are going to do next.
“Unexpected” I am sure...
One of the Valeros in the Galleria is hiring. I am sure that is due to the Stimulus money and nObama should be claiming 200 jobs “saved” or “created”...
I heard Bill White on the radio (950) this morning saying that education reform is the most important issue in this state.
He said other funny things like how he did NOT invite the Katrina refugees to stay in Houston (he kicked out the promoters who’d rented the George R. Brown and dared anyone to sue the city over it in this time of need). He also said that Houston was the closest city to New Orleans (although Memphis is ALSO 6 hours away, shaking up in Houston meant facing the prospect 2 months later of Hurricane Rita which luckily turn away from us).
He denied that Houston had been a sanctuary city and then blamed the governor and then said it wasn’t something that the governor could do much about. No talk of a border fence or other possible things the governor could do. No talk about coming down hard on employers that used cheap (and sometimes illegal) foreign labor.
The interview was “softball” (when the abortion issue came up with regards to Planned Parenthood’s abortuary superstore, there was no discussion of the possible required sonogram for those seeking an abortion...).
CHANGE. Can you feel it yet?
Snow’s fault.
Thousands of NASA jobs are on the chopping block if Obama gets his way.
And when O. talks of “creating” Green Energy jobs, it is really just a transfer of energy sector jobs from one method of power generation to another. You open jobs and close down others (with different degree requirements).
Let’s see, ten counties in the Houston area, so 10K apiece...
LA County alone lost way more than double the entire Houston area.

HOPENCHANGE!
“Bush’s fault.” - Obama
I'll live in Texas over California (or any other state) any day.
The Californians are just jealous. ;-)
So how is that abortion tower coming? Is it out on 45?
I am getting a large response from the ad we placed, I know that. A mixed bag of candidates, but actually a few excellent ones, and several good.
Do you have a working link which goes to the article?
“Was this by chance unexpected?”
Probably for those that continue to support Reps like Sheila Jackson Lee - but then getting a job is not really on these individual’s Bucket List. Would be interesting to see how many of those who are no longer employed are illegals who worked in housing construction. Lots of road work going on in the suburbs though and all the worker bees appear to be Hispanic. Houston is a mess - infrastructure needs massive repairs, lots of large houses for sale, property taxes sky high in the city. Bill White, former Mayor who was term limited left a mess. Our wonderful Dimwit newspaper-the Chronicle-can’t criticize him though because he is now running for Governor against Perry. Energy is beginning to take a hit. Let’s hope they don’t shut NASA down.
they got a gas station in the Galleria now? //sarc
I had to renew my license during the Katrina mess, and while at the DPS I was shocked to see the refugees from La were given priority status over us residents. They came in by the van load to get Texas id’s, I assume for social services. Heard several news stories of the money they were given ended up at the Galleria Jewelry stores. Some tried to have the stores cash their checks for them. Unbelievable. When the Saint’s won the superbowl you could easily tell how many are still here.
