Second Ways & Means boss ousted; Levin replaces liberal Stark By Jay Heflin - 03/04/10 09:57 AM ET
Speaker Nancy Pelosi has announced that Rep. Sander Levin will be the interim Ways and Means panel chairman.
Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) said Pelosi made the announcement at a meeting of the caucus this morning.
Etheridge said Ways and Means members gave their unanimous backing to Levin, a Michigan Democat who has been chairman of the subcommittee on trade.
"Pelosi announced it in the caucus and the Ways and Means Committee just unanimously approved it," Etheridge said.
The startling announcement comes a day after Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) appeared ready to take the reins of the committee from Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.). Stark was the next in line for the post in terms of seniority, but some panel members revolted at the idea of him leading the committee.
Levin effectively becomes the panel's third chairman in a matter of 25 hours.
Stark said he wanted to remain as the chairman of the subcommittee on health.
"I worked my whole career on this, and I don't want to do that [become chairman]," he told The Hill. "So Sandy moves up."
Rangel announced Wednesday he would give up his chairmanship until the ethics committee completed an investigation of him.

Gee, so my “representative” gets to finally do more than waste oxygen and heat up a seat.
San fran nan's most ethical congress ever. < /sarc>
Its time for the Congressional Black Caucus to get a little ‘payback’ from the KKK Democratic Whitey’s in the House.
Why do you think Barry trotted down to Georgia earlier this week for the first time in TWO YEARS?
He knows that the CBC is playing footsie with the House Republicans as we speak to see if there can be a reapproachment’ on the matter of a jobs bill and whether or not the Republicans would support John Lewis (D-GA) replacing San Fran Nan as the Speaker of the House.
John Lewis (D-GA) would become the first African-American Speaker of the House of Representatives in the history of the United States.
We are just five days away from fundamentally changing the House of Representatives.
Three Ways and Means Chairmen in three days. Three New York Governors ( any day now ) in one year. Two consecutive disgraced Governors of New Jersey. Two candidates for one Senate seat when first candidate incumbent is too filthy to run. And what do they all have in common? It begins with a D and has a rat at the end.

Typical democrat
“And I thought Louisiana roads were bad”
Actually, they aren’t that bad; I’ve driven through Louisiana on my way to Fort Polk. After all it was the Kingfish himself Huey Long who built first class bridges and highways throughout his state.
But Sander Levin and Carl Levin are worst-case liberals; only moonbats like Fortney “Atheist” Stark and Ron “Red” Dellums might be worse.
Queen for a day.
Well, this certainly confirms there’s a steady hand holding the reins of the House. No uncertainties there, nosirreee Bob. Miss Nancy’s solid as a dollar in her decisions.
The CBC’s not going to be happy with a Jew in Rangel’s chairmanship.
Food fight. LOL
