Mexico, which people love to deride:
2 back to back hurricanes wipe out all of Cancun, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen and surrounding areas. Complete devastation — for all intents and purposes there was nothing left.
After things settle down (like a week later) the Governor of Quintana Roo goes to each of the major city centers with shovels and rakes and says “we don’t work, we don’t eat.”
The people work for food only and some concessions on their rent and mortgages.
In 9 months the resort communities are ready for tourists. Th rebuilding of the beachfronts continues to this day.
No $2,000 debit cards. No “boo hoo boo hoo the gummit didn’t do enough!” No special tax exemptions. Just “if we don’t work, we don’t eat.”
After less than a year, Mexico got back on it’s feet.
After 5 years, NOLA continues to cry like a little baby. As always, depending on the gummit is path to weakness.
As an American, I am embarrassed. As should all Americans.
Bested by Mexico.
Think about it.
In February, 1986, the price of oil collapsed. Louisiana and Texas went to recession. Texas rebounded in 2-3 years. Louisiana never has. Almost everyone in Louisiana is STILL waiting for a government bailout.
Check out the article. It’s about those struck in MISSISSIPPI, not LA.
Wow. Eye-operner. Right on. Should be a bigger story about that.
See Iowa, Galveston...
