President Obama declared for the first time yesterday that he was prepared to steamroller his troubled health reform legislation through Congress with only Democratic support; a move Republicans denounced as the nuclear option.
Signalling that his patience had snapped after a year-long fight, Mr Obama laid the ground for Democrats in Congress to muscle the Bill through using a high-risk legislative manoeuvre known as reconciliation, which overrides a Republican filibuster. Although he did not use the word reconciliation, Mr Obama made it clear that that was the route he intended to take.
Democrats will, as a result, be able to get the health reform package through the Senate with a simple majority. Mr Obamas party ceded their 60-stong majority in the upper chamber after losing the late Teddy Kennedys Massachusetts seat in January.
That shock defeat was due, in large part, to growing public hostility to Mr Obamas health reforms, which many see as too expensive at a time of soaring deficits. Ramming the Bill through Congress is, therefore, a high-risk strategy that Republicans vowed to exploit.

Obama reach for his cigarettes while sipping his forty.
He’s a prick...
Nope. Stop him. Its our country. NO DICTATORS!!! Get on the street. Make them shoot us!!!
A patholigical narcissist should never be allowed to run a country, nor should he be allowed to be dog catcher!
It’s time that Americans were given an “up or down vote” on impeaching “Barack Hussein Obama, Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Mmmmm.”
They are doing it in the winter when nobody wants to march on DC.
LOL. The last politician who called himself a ‘steamroller’ was out of office a year later.
That day seems to be getting ever closer.
TRY ME ! WILL MARCH ANY SEASON.
please let it be soon
It would be nice to think that this is a plan by the clever Republicans to facilitate opposition to obammy's support in the face of the upcoming elections.
I guess that might be too much of a stretch, though.
Gotta love the British papers. They report our news like our MSM won’t. Steamroll...Nuclear, accurate and great stuff.
The O-Hole needs to be “snapped” upside the head with a electoral 2x4... and the rest of his Marxists cohorts in Congress. Forget “tea parties” ... It is time for “blanket parties” on a national scale.
If they use “reconciliation” ... then the American people MUST stage a NATIONAL TAX REVOLT... WE MUST ORGANIZE AND AFFECT A BODY BLOW TO THE BASTARDS! WE ABSOLUTELY MUST FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE, and it cannot wait until November. Acts of civil disobedience in mass MUST be brought to the forefront NOW!
Bring it on, you pencil-necked dick.
Trust me, you don't want Government health care doctors fixing your gunshot wounds.
Start impeachment procedings even if it is symbolic.
He looks as evil and psychotic as Hitler or any other dictator throughout history.
Looking at his evil face makes me want to throw up. Add Reid and Pelosi to that list as well.
Hey, military doctors are government employees. I’m sure my hubby would disagree.
The maneuver was brought to prominence in 2005 when then-”Majority Leader Bill Frist (Republican of Tennessee) threatened its use to end Democratic-led filibusters of judicial nominees submitted by President George W. Bush. In response to this threat, Democrats threatened to shut down the Senate and prevent consideration of all routine and legislative Senate business. The ultimate confrontation was prevented by the Gang of 14, a group of seven Democratic and **seven Republican Senators,** all of whom agreed to oppose the nuclear option and oppose filibusters of judicial nominees, except in extraordinary circumstances.”
The democrats acted like the `nuclear option’ back then was a Republican proposal to bar-b-q IVD children. But now it’s “reconcilation.” And an iron fist in a chain mail glove.
1.) GOP should threaten to shut down the senate and prevent consideration of all routine and legislative senate business.
2.) RINOs will fall on their backs.
3.) McCain is a punk.
