Reagan on the $50?
www.washingtonexaminer.com ^ | 03/03/10 | Julie Mason

It doesn't buy what it used to, but will this swap-out be granted?

Remember when Grover Norquist was on that tear to have one thing in every state named for former President Reagan? So adorable. We thought he mostly gave up but in truth, we quit paying attention when the plan to add Reagan to Mount Rushmore fell through.

It's an election year, though, so any and all ways for Republicans to ostentatiously honor the nation's 40th president must now present themselves and be heard. Rep. Patrick McHenry, a Republican from North Carolina, wants to boot Ulysses S. Grant from the $50 and give that space to Reagan.

Besides I sure don’t want an Obama bill someday so let’s not mess with changing them.

IF Zero ever gets on a bill, we'll be using them for toilet paper, and using toilet paper for money.

Put Ronald Reagan on the $100,000 dollar bill.

That bill will be as common as a dollar bill after Obama and friends get done destroying our economy with hyper-inflation.

They are no longer in circulation, but the following bills are also legal tender:

$500 William McKinley (Republican)

$1,000 Grover Cleveland (Democrat)

$5,000 James Madison (Democratic-Republican)

$10,000 Salmon P. Chase (Republican; he was Lincoln’s Secretary of the Treasury, and thus responsible for the reintroduction of paper currency)

There also was a $100,000 bill with Woodrow Wilson (Democrat) on the obverse, but it was never in circulation; it was only used for transactions between the Federal Reserve Bank and member banks.

Send this email to your liberal friends and drive them crazy. (Assuming they can do simple math!)

Your political hero and greatest leader of all time.

Find out who truly is your political hero. (don't scroll down yet.)
Do the simple math below, then scroll down to find your political hero.
It's crazy how accurate this is!!!

No peeking!!!

1) Pick your favorite number between 1-9
2) Multiply by 3
3) Add 3
4) Multiply by 3, again
5) You should now have a 2 or 3 digit number....
6) Add the digits together
Now, scroll down.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

With that number, see who your REAL HERO is from the list below:

1. Barak Obama
2. Jimmy Carter
3. Franklin Delano Roosevelt
4. Karl Marx
5. Mao
6. Che Guevara
7. Josef Stalin
8. Fidel Castro
9. Ronald Reagan
10.John F. Kennedy

It's not the worst idea a Congressman has had, but it would have been more likely to go through if it had been proposed five years ago, shortly after President Reagan died.

And, yes, Grover Norquist's "Reagan Project" left a very ugly taste in people's mouths. Americans are more likely to rename things after a recently deceased leader when it isn't part of an organized lobbying campaign.

Norquist made us cynical about such things. We wouldn't have gotten so many things named after John Kennedy or John Glen or Martin Luther King if a Democratic hack had proposed renaming schools and streets and parks as part of a PR campaign. Naming and renaming had to at least appear to be a spontaneous expression of respect and gratitude, not something orchestrated.

Congress isn't going to take Grant off the $50. What Reagan will probably get is his picture on a coin for a few years as Kennedy and Eisenhower did. That's an uncommon tribute for the country to bestow and it's something he deserves.

Look what’s happening with A/C Carriers.

Carter has a sub because that’s where he served; but I think Clinton may be entitled to have a pricy vessel named after him.

Can you imagine serving on the USS Clinton?

Leave Sam Grant alone. He paid his dues, and did his best for his country long before R/R was even thought of/Put Ronnie on the new $500.00

If present trends continue, there will be plenty of new bill denominations available, so no need to displace U.S. Grant.

I'll have to veto this, because Grant was also Republican and a war hero.

Patrick Timothy McHenry (born October 22, 1975) is a Republican United States Representative from North Carolina,

This overly ambitious twit wasn't even out of elementary school during the Reagan years, so I'm thinking that, instead of honoring the Gipper, he's actually making brownie points in his hometown by crapping on Grant.

What a boob wasting everybody's time on this stuff.

The Civil War is over.
The South LOST fer cripesakes.
McHenry needs to grow up and get over it.

I have long thought that Reagan should be on the $1 coin. I believe that many (myself included) were disinclined to support and use the two most recent attempts at the coin, both of which featured feminists icons, because of the blatant attempt at propaganda. Neither SBA nor Sacagawea deserved the honor of being featured on a denomination.
On the other hand, I would bet that the Reagan dollar coin would be immensely popular and supported by the vast majority of Americans.
