Commentary by David Bereit, National Coordinator, 40 Days for Life
March 3, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A young woman walked up to the 40 Days for Life vigil outside an abortion center in Austin, Texas recently. She signed up to join the others in prayer ... and then immediately sat down on the sidewalk and started to cry.
One of the volunteers stopped praying for a moment to approach the young woman, whom she had never met before, and asked her if she needed a hug. This volunteer assumed that the thought of what was going on inside the abortion facility had simply overcome this woman and brought her to tears.
But that wasn't the case. To her surprise, she found out this young woman was crying for another reason.
"I'm pregnant right now and don't want to be," she said. "I've already had four abortions.
She said she didn't have an abortion scheduled. "But I keep feeling this huge temptation to just go to an abortion clinic, pay my $400 and get it over with. I came to the sidewalk to pray, and to be around people who are like-minded as I am."
The young woman told one of the sidewalk counselors that she was twelve weeks into her pregnancy. She had already been to a pregnancy resource center, but was still a mess emotionally.
She had become a Christian, she said. "But with this pregnancy, I just feel so depressed. I'm living in a women's shelter, and the last thing I want right now is to be pregnant."
The sidewalk counselor took her to dinner, and they sat and talked for hours. "As they developed a long-term plan to get this young woman the help she needs," said Elizabeth McClung, the local 40 Days for Life coordinator in Austin, "she said something that should serve as an encouragement to every single pro-lifer who has ever thought about going to pray at an abortion facility."
"If you guys weren't out there praying," this woman said, "I would have pulled up to the facility, sat in my car for hours on end -- and ended up going inside for a fifth abortion. Since you were on the sidewalk praying, I knew I could find comfort and support there, so I went there to cry instead. Thank you for being there."
"Her story is the perfect example as to why we not only pray from home and from church, but we also go pray at the very places where lives are being hurt and taken," Elizabeth said.
She is now on a path to healing from her previous abortions, finding a job and taking her pregnancy one day at a time. And, Elizabeth said, "She is not going to have another abortion!"
Please pray for her, and for all who are desperate to break out of that cycle of abortion.

great story
Once is a mistake, but four or five times? Pray that she gets the help she needs.
A young girl came to visit me in my office one day and said she was pregnant and on her way to an abortion with the helpers waiting in the car. I asked if she was having second thoughts, and she was. I told her to go out another door and to the local library next door and they would likely leave in a while. She left, and I didn’t see her for nearly two years when she walked in with her little daughter. The child is now 7 or 8. I believe many go to a clinic for help, and then are afraid to say they changed their mind for fear of hurting the feelings of the “new friends.”
The story goes on to say: "She had become a Christian ..."
Evidently Christ has made a difference in her life and she didn't want to commit murder anymore. As a non-Christian, committing murder is just another sin you will have to pay for through spiritual death. Committing murder as a Christian is deliberate disobedience to your Lord and Savior and 1 John states that if we claim to know him and continue to sin, then we are a liar and the truth is not in us.
Sorry for the rant ...
Rant on - you are absolutely right.
Wonderful story.
What about in defense of Liberty or in defense of your home? This question has been on my mind for sometime and I apologize for going in a different direction on this thread. Murder of innocents is an abomination; but what about evil?
You can not commit murder in defense of life, limb or liberty.
Just think.....abortions will be covered in Obama's HellCare plan.....and we'll pay for those who are not as enlightened as this lady.....and who will have one or multiple abortions as easy as having their teeth cleaned regularly.
We better all start looking for a second job to pay for health care that Obama sez will REDUCE our costs.

Killing in self defense and the defense of others is not murder.
Wow, praying for this woman! Should she not be able to handle raising
her child, I would also pray that she considers the gift of adoption.
I have two adopted nieces - they are the light of our lives.
One of the birth moms visits regularly, the other receives only
an occasional picture. I pray for these women as well
to know what a wonderful gift they have given our family.
Supposedly Planned Parenthood is building bigger clinics to cover the greater number of abortions provided by the money of the people.
Thank God for these active and loving Christians; they are the solution to the problem of abortion, as well as for other problems like drug abuse.
Just think of the millions of dollars AlGore has personally made for himself off of the global warming scam. He'll make more millions if Crap and Traitor passes. He's got his dirty fingers into the carbon offsets business, and who knows what else.
In the socialist society that Obama is forming, the rich elite who support his agenda get richer. The redistribution of wealth he's working at will spread misery around equally to all the rest of the populace who are not the socialist, amoral elite.

What an incredible testimony to the faithfulness of the pro life ministry
