WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama urged Congress Wednesday to vote "up or down" on sweeping health care legislation in the next few weeks, endorsing a plan that denies Senate Republicans the right to kill the bill by stalling with a filibuster.
"I don't see how another year of negotiations would help. Moreover, the insurance companies aren't starting over," Obama said, rejecting Republican calls to begin anew on an effort to remake the health care system.
The president made his appeal as Democratic leaders in Congress surveyed their rank and file for the votes needed to pass legislation by majority vote — invoking rules that deny Senate Republicans the right to block it through endless stalling debate. Obama specifically endorsed that approach.
The outcome will affect nearly every American, either making major changes in the ways they receive and pay for health care or leaving current systems in place. There is still no certainty about the final result in Congress — or even that Democrats will agree to the series of changes that Obama said he was including as Republican contributions.

We need ten Blue Dog House Dems to be scared absolutely witless about having to face the electorate in November if they vote for this. If they got together and issued a statement that they would not be voting to pass ANY health care reform in this session of Congress, Obamacare would be D-E-A-D. (and at this point there are quite a few Dems who are wishing it would just go away)
That’s frightening. I’m not even sure what else to say. I fear for my children’s and (future) grandchildren’s’ health if this goes through.

The Republican response should be thus:
"Mr President, you sure seem to hate the insurance companies, which makes me wonder why you want to become the biggest insurer of them all. You want the American people to believe that only you and government can be a trusted insurer, while private insurers are nothing but theives. Well Mr. President, you have taken the American people far deeper into financial crisis than any insurance company has with your endless spending on bailouts, taking control of private industries and funding them with AMERICAN TAXPAYER dollars, and shoving something down their throats that you know they don't want. And you think they should trust YOU and your Administration to be the largest health care provider of them all?
The Insurance companies actually have one of the lowest rates of return on investment of major industries.

Just sent a message to our D senator. Not that it will do a bit of good. Ben Nelson. He thinks they are all so much smarter than us and that they are doing something we will come to appreciate.
