Freshman Rep. Eric Massa, D-N.Y., retiring

After just one term in Congress, Rep. Eric Massa, D-N.Y., has reportedly decided against running for reelection.

Massa is slated to hold a conference call with reporters to talk about the decision later Wednesday afternoon, but early reports suggest it could be health related. In the 1990's, while serving as special assistant to Gen. Wes Clark, then supreme allied commander of NATO, Massa was diagnosed with terminal cancer; after treatment, however, the cancer was reportedly in remission. However, the New York Daily News has unnamed "sources close to the congressman" talking about a possible ethics investigation.

I smiled when I saw the Weasely Clark “special assistant” connection. Weasely always struck me as gay.

And the hook is, after only 2 YEARS, he will retire on that salary FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE!

supposedly he sexually harassed a male staffer

My first thought was that Massa is bailing out and the Dems are Pi$$ed.

Could it be that the Dems are going to start punishing those in their ranks that bail out by humiliating the traitor and embarassing his family?

This guy doesn't look like a poofer.

I'm just sayin'

“And the hook is, after only 2 YEARS, he will retire on that salary FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE!”

Uh, no...it is my understanding that you only get a Congressional pension after 5 years of service...He’ll still keep his Navy pension @ 50% salary.

It might just be that he didn’t realize a staff member is gay and made an off color joke.

Because he is a former naval officer, married with children - I’ll keep an open mind on this one.

One of the if not the most GOP seats in NY. He won last time cause the GOP incumbent was in some ethics trouble.

He’s says he’s quitting cause of health reasons, he’s had cancer.

A male staffer alleges sexual harassment. Massa says that was just “salty language”.

He was likely to get bounced in November anyway, even without a gay scandal.

the primary is everything. Not sure the Conservatives understand this. They ignore primaries and then complain that their candidate is a RINO.

Apparently, the RAT leadership knew all along about this guy, but decided to get rid of him because he voted against the health care takeover.
