Hutchison underestimated anti-Washington sentiment
Houston Chronicle ^ | March 2, 2010, 11:00PM | JOE HOLLEY

Less than a year ago, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison was the most popular elected official in Texas and the odds-on favorite to be the next governor of Texas. Some polls showed her leading the incumbent, Rick Perry, by more than 20 points.

What Hutchison didn't realize this time a year ago was that her fate may well have been sealed by Tax Day, April 15, 2009, when Perry spoke at tea party rallies in Houston, Dallas and Austin and suggested — merely suggested — that Texas might have reason to secede from the union. He never mentioned the word “secession,” but there was no mistaking his drift.

Too much time inside the beltway. I could have predicted this in ‘91 when she joined all the FemiNazis over Tailhook. Payback is a mutha.

She needs to be ousted from her day job too.
When is she up for re-election to the U.S.Senate?
Just say NO to RINOs.

The only people underestimating the “anti-Washington sentiment” are the people IN ‘Washington.’

I see a distinct trend here: liberal women are getting beaten. look at massachusetts, NY23 and now Hutchison.

White men getting fed up??

I see you received the standard form letter as well. I "canned" mine as well.

"I share your concerns about "topic such and such" and blah, blah blah..." >wadded it up and threw it away...endlessly

Excellent summary......November 2010 will be the canon shot across the bow.....so far it's just been small arms fire.

"Republicans do not want Dem Lite."

Its more than Republicans that don't want it, Independents are seeing the light as well.

I believe that this is due to seeing what "Dem Heavy" really is "all about" when unleashed on the citizens.

One of her ads said; “all the major newspapers endorse her.” To me, that is not a GOOD thing at this point and I thought it was a stupid ad. The insiders all still think that their endorsements and degrees impress the people. Things have changed. They are slow learners.

Whatever problems conservatives have with Perry, no one in their right mind could have honestly believed KBH was the solution.

Did you ever write a letter to Chet Edwards? I got 8 of the same letter. His office never even read my questions.

There, fixed it.

The seat comes up in 2012. However she has said that she would resign but has used different time frames as to when that will occur. So who knows if she will or she won’t. The lastest is that she will hang on to fight health care, etc. and maybe resign by the end of the year.

If she resigns early enough there is a ‘uniform election date’ on Nov.2, in which the special election could be held to select the replacement for the remainder of the term. Perry will have the opportunity to make a temp appt to hold the job until the special election can be held.

I can’t think a single important piece of legislation she can take credit for. I might be wrong I just don’t recall one. She did however help stop the building of the border fence
