Bush is way smarter than most posters. He understands that, in practical terms, anything that he said would be blown off or distorted by the media.
Also, the system is best served by the bench becoming everyday players. In addition, there is a tradition of letting the former presidents stepping aside to allow the former VPs to becoming one of the chief spokespersons.
Bush is not only being gracious, he is being sensible and acknowledging past American history and political practices. It’s also gratifying because, by his actions, he’s saying that the real power should be bubbling up from below, and not residing within an oligarchy of guys whose time has passed.
Why do you want to make this all about him? Never mind, I answered my own question.
This public is not worthy of this man.
Unfortunately, he also wouldn’t stand up for himself during his 8 years in the White House! Credit that for dem victories in ‘06 and ‘08.
One can "turn the cheek" once and still have class; but turning it twice and he/she turns having class into acting like an ass! This isn't a new thing in history nor is it isolated to DimocRATS...Please note that Theodore Roosevelt didn't hesitate to criticize Woodrow Wilson as weak and incompetent!
I have a question (for the entire forum): assume you are a Third Party malcontent, or some other True Conservative. At which stage of the five stages of grief do you find yourself now that Bush has left office?
I agree. The scriptures endorse exposing evil.
He doesn’t have to - obama’s behavior speaks volumes.
“It comes down to personality. I will never forget the 2004 vice-presidential debate where Cheney completely dismantled Edwards. He did it so methodically and quietly, it was scary.”
And after he had finished debating w/Leiberman, my wife and turned to each other, mightily impressed, and said, “So how come THESE two guys don’t get to run the country?”

It's not only a matter of personality but also one of being mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. If the roles were reversed (and Cheney was the ex-president and Bush the ex-vice president) I still believe that Cheney would be letting Hussein have it as there appears to be a bulldoggish attitude about turning the cheek just so often with Cheney. Bush, of course, would roll up into a Dan Quayle mantra and say nothing.
As the comments in this topic prove, “W” can’t ever do the right thing in the eyes of some, left or right. It’s that old Lincoln quote with “please the people”, substituted for “fool the people”. “Can’t do it, not gonna do it, wouldn’t be prudent”, to quote a comedian, quoting his Dad.
While not my favorite President, he’s a good man that I respect and love, and yeah, sometimes I wished he’d have just gone all “Ann Coulter” on the left - but, I won’t criticize him for his principals. Like many, I see it as a class, but even if he went “nucular” on Obama, he’d have his detractors on both sides.
That he said (and I believe sincerely), “The prayers of the people ... sustained me, comforted me and strengthened me ... “, is why I love the man - not his politics, his speech patterns, his class or his lack of. God bless him.
Whatever issues I have with President Bush, he’s sure got a lot more class than any Democrat ex-President.
Oh, right. And this has nothing whatsoever to do with the NWO dog and pony show. /sarcasm
Do you ACTUALLY believe that the POTUS (any of them) ACTUALLY control what goes on in this world? Sheeeesh!!!!
Yes, a true failure, and we the people must pay for his inadequacies.
LLS
Whether I agreed with his politics, I never questioned Bush’s humility and sincerity in faith. Unlike his predecessor he didn’t don religion for political expediency; unlike his successor, faith and love of country are not exclusive.
