Yep. 246 mph top speed. Crazy fast.
Cool Youtube video of the 917 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=resu77vBKm0
914-6 maybe (or with the added M471 kit=916) serial numbers 914 233 0011, 914 233 0020 and proto 914 143 0195 absolutely, but NOT the 914.
914’s were, everywhere other than USA, VW’s.
I should have included the remarkable and magnificent 912. My bad.
My heart skipped a beat when I scrolled on that pic. Thanks.
The 914-6 was a neat car.
I won’t argue it was mostly a VW, but you could sure get those suckers to stick to the road with a bit of work.
Of course when they let go, you might as well stick your arms up through the roof and scream like you’re on a roller coaster ‘cause there was no getting it back.
A friend has a fuel-injected 914 Type IV engine from Jake Raby (?)(putting out 200hp) in a late 1950s 356 that he decked out to look like a “Carrera” model with loovered (sp?) deck lid, wide five wheels, remote (front, under the front bumper) oil cooler, etc.
The thing is insane. It can smoke the back tires in 3rd gear going 70mph.
