Laptops seized in Army base probe ( Muslims )

A South Carolina congressman said Friday that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson, S.C., had been removed from active duty, and four of them discharged from the Army, in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged threats to poison food at the large South Carolina base.

Republican Rep. Joe Wilson, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, said the soldiers' laptops had been seized and were being analyzed. Congressional officials with knowledge of the case said cell phones and Arabic writings had been confiscated as well.

Wilson also disclosed for the first time that four of the Muslim soldiers had been "administratively separated" from the Army, a military designation that means they were discharged with neither honorable nor dishonorable status.

"If you don't succeed (in the Army), you can be administratively discharged without a court-martial and without a full military review," .

The fifth soldier was removed from active duty and returned to the National Guard's jurisdiction in Virginia,.

Congressional officials said three of the five soldiers had been sent to the National Guard unit based in the District of Columbia.

“If you don’t succeed (in the Army), you can be administratively discharged.”

Well, that’s one way to put it. After all, they “didn’t succeed” in poisoning the food supply.

Did they ever say whether these Failures were at Ft Jackson for Basic Training or something else?

I just still can’t shake the feeling we are being lied to here. This same Army command structure thought Major Hassan was just hunky dory.

Wilson, who said Army officials had briefed him on the case and provided a written account, confirmed earlier reports that the soldiers at the center of the case were Muslims enrolled in "Lima 09," a program launched in 2003 to train Arabic and Farsi speakers.

Oh, and they were finally mustered out for stealing from fellow soldiers...

"They were stealing from other soldiers," Wilson said. "It was discovered that there had been petty crimes that were not related to the original allegations of food poisoning or disloyalty. The individuals were simply not trustworthy."

Killing infidels is not a crime for faithful Muslims, it is their duty. Obama made it clear that we are no longer a Christian Nation. Give these Muslims some slack, they were just exercising their religious obligations. You do not hear Obama giving this attack any mention.

Just focus on prosecuting the CIA agents who offended the terrorists and everything will be honky dory. Stick with Papa Obama. We are in good hands.

More about Lima Nine:

The conspirators were in the Army’s 902nd Military Intelligence Group’s MOS 09L program (“Lima Nine”), E Company, 187th Ordnance Battalion. Lima Nine was started because of the Army’s desperate lack of linguists speaking Pashto, Dari or Arabic. To attract such recruits, military intelligence promises foreigners that if they join the Army as a translator they will get U.S. citizenship and a top security clearance. Candidates from Afghanistan and Iraq, including the Jackson Five, speak such poor English the Army puts them in Lima Nine and gives them English lessons, so they will have some hope of passing basic training. Clayton Leishman, program manager, said 34 recruits in the program last summer scored 50 in English, below the 80 required, but with 24 weeks of tutoring they would pass basic. Another program director, Lt. Col. Frank Deminth, said Lima Nine recruits are put on a fast track to U.S. citizenship, “once they serve one day of honorable active duty.” It is interesting to note that when these Muslims join Lima Nine they also are joining an Army intelligence group.

Thanks. I finally got a grasp on it :)

This is a fairly new Army MOS calle 09L or zero nine Lima - Translator/Interpreter. It appears they take native Arabic/Persian speakers and let them join the US Army.

They are shipped off to Ft Jackson where they undergo intense English language training in preparation for US Army Basic Training. Once they meet the minimum skill level for English, they take Basic Training and then continue on to their advanced schooling which actually trains them to be proficient in their MOS - 09L.

So these bozos never actually made it out to the field as they were discharged either during their language course, during which everyone is assigned a laptop, or Basic Training.

Wait a minute. Were 4 of the perps were returned to their countries of origin???

The The Daily Caller reports that:

Unconfirmed initial reports said three of the Jackson Five were sent back to National Guard units, one was to be discharged under Chapter 5-17, AR 635-200, and one was being held until the investigation was over.

Reports also indicated two of the suspects had stolen military ID cards and cell phones from other soldiers. No further reference was made to these reports by the Army except to say four of the five recruits were returned to their country of origin. The country was not named.

WTF?

So which is it Congressman? Does it depend on if you are talking to true Americans or to Muslims?

“Wilson said the soldiers were discharged because of unrelated incidents of minor theft.”

“A South Carolina congressman said Friday that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson, S.C., had been removed from active duty, and four of them discharged from the Army, in connection with an ongoing probe into alleged threats to poison food at the large South Carolina base.”

About those cell phones (from the pdf you found at the US's Iraq embassy site)

"Soldiers are not allowed to have cellular phones while in a training environment. All three locations (ESL Training, BCT and AIT)are considered training environments."

BCT (Basic Combat Training) and AIT (Advanced individual Training) takes place at Ft Jackson. (or did until it was recently moved to Fort Huachaca.*

*"Earlier, spokesman Jones said the sudden and silent transfer of Lima Nine headquarters from Fort Jackson to Fort Huachuca, Arizona, had absolutely nothing to do with the Jackson Five investigation."

Of course not.

Well, Ft Huachuca would make more sense to have the MOS specific training there but why start it out at Ft Jackson to begin with?

If I remember, an interrogator/interpreter does not need a very high clearance. And the particulars of this 09L program seem to bear that out.

It would be much better to have a “one-stop-shop” for training such individuals and a place such as a BCT post would be perfect. Taking an unknown quantity, a foreign national, and placing him or her into the US Army is daunting enough. But then having to clear such individuals, background checks, etc., is almost impossible.

I would think it would be best to keep them from a place like Ft Huachuca where they could mix with soldiers from other AIT intelligence training courses, courses that are much more sensitive in nature than translating or interpreting. I would be more worried about recruitment than an intelligence compromise in such an environment.
