(Maryland) Lawmaker: First cousins should not marry
Houston Chronicle ^ | Feb. 23, 2010, 6:34AM | no byline

...it's time to ban marriages between first cousins and stop playing what he calls "genetic roulette" with their offspring.

Henry Heller, a Democratic delegate, or state representative, says he wants to bring Maryland "into the enlightened world of other states such as West Virginia and Arkansas" that already prohibit unions of first cousins...

The bill would make an exception for people who are over age 65 or infertile. Heller says he has "no problem" with those couples if they want the companionship.

There are 24 states that prohibit marriage between first-cousins.

Well, in the Land of Peasant Living, Doug Gansler has decreed that Our State must honor same-sex marriages from other states.

Gansler is the AG of this God-forsaken hellhole.

I was surprised to find we don’t have that law. I heard it last week on the radio and was a bit shocked.

As someone else says - MD can’t have cousins marry but homosexuals can. Gee, that makes a lot of sense.

MD is southern, traditionally.

But not since Lincoln held it hostage and made government bigger so more liberals would move here.

You are correct.

We humans simply have the “EEEWWWWW” factor, in which it doesn’t seem right.

Meanwhile, animals themselves will inbreed and there is little “genetic problem”.

“tries to claim that liberals have higher IQs than everyone else”

There should be a “Common Sense” test. If their IQs are exceedingly high, watch the CS go way down.

‘same-sex “marriages” don’t produce offspring, either.’

Yeah, but now they’re allowed to pollute perfectly normal children, anyway, to make up for it.

actually there are problems with animal inbreeding. Most of the highly inbred purebred lines have well known genetic problems. To the point that our vet told us which breed generally dies of what and at what age.

It’s true. And MD continued to be a slave state since it was “loyal” (at gunpoint); thus the vaunted Emancipation Proclamation did not apply.

We are aware of that (I’m a German Shepherd lover), but you are talking what people forced on them AND continuous inbreeding, not occasional lapses.

However, in defense of animal breeders, there has been much inbreeding, yes, but relatively little problem. A) it is the very manner in which breeds are created, and B) breeding cruddy animals, period.

B) is a MAJOR problem. People gloss over bad issues in the animal because they’re salivating over the good and hoping the good keeps showing up (which is also a point of inbreeding - trying to concentrate the goodness).

My family has the same, but there’s no inbreeding. Anecdotes like this are not enough to make policy.

I had no intention of submitting this as anything other than
an anecdote. I thought that I might get some feedback from
someone who is more of an authority on the subject. I
apologize for not making that more clear.
