For some on the Left, this picture ought to make their heads explode! A Mainstream Media publication is actually using the "V" word for what the United States has accomplished in Iraq! Newsweek has used the word "Victory" on its cover: "Victory at Last" it says, with a shot of President George W. Bush walking out of the picture under the headline.
The article on the inside is grudging - they could not resist one more mention of Abu Ghraib - but it does admit that what President George W. Bush talked about in 2003 - a democratic Iraq - is now coming to pass:
[...]
It's nice to see that even some on the Left are now having to recognize what the United States - thanks to our brave men and women in uniform - has achieved in Iraq. The very people who fought against the means to bring victory about - the Surge Strategy - are now grudgingly admitting that it worked and victory has been achieved!
I thought Joe Biden said that he won the Iraq war. Or maybe it was Barry who did it.
Born on third, this administration thinks it hit a triple in Iraq.
The war has BEEN over ever since Saddam Hussein was toppled.
We have not been fighting against Iraq. We have been fighting alongside the new Iraqi government against terrorists who are funded and trained and supplied by foreign nations.
Newsweak was wrong about korans being flushed down toilets in Gitmo as well.
Biden said he won this war but his “vision” was a 3-state “solution” in Iraq. These know nothings stand on the graves of dead Americans to blow their own horn.
Was Hillary under sniper fire again?
Obama did a fine job! What a leader!
We’ve won everything: the Messiah has been elected. :)
Thanks for reading Newsweak Freedom’s Lighthouse - that way I don’t have to suffer the outrage.
My brother is in Iraq. He wrote on Saturday that Baghdad has all the usual signs of an impending election in any country: the candidate’s signs, the news, etc. It’s all going reasonably well.
He continues to work on business development projects there, and comes home in three weeks. He has met a lot of capable people with good ideas for meeting the country’s needs. What they really need to develop, though, is better managers, who can exercise their own judgment and take initiative, he says. They are not used to that, since so many had to take orders from higher up, during Hussein’s time.
And of course at the end of the article newsweak states: “Such is America’s dark victory” in Iraq. Fatuist pumpkinheads.
NBC declared with great fanfare in November of 2006 that Iraq was in a civil war. I have yet to hear them change that status.
Questions that Brian Williams should have to answer:
Is Iraq still in a civil war?
If not, which side won?
How was what you attmpted to do any different than your predecessor Cronkite during the “Tet Offensive”?
When will you declare, with equal fanfare, the current status of Iraq’s war?
