I am really getting tired of hearing people say "misspoke" and any other mis-communication when they actually mean "they lied," or spread an unsubstantiated rumor.

Since theres no mention of a casualty, I’m guessing it went into the floor. Security guard is lucky he didn’t shoot his foot/leg off.

While I am in agreement in theory, speaking as somone who has had to talk to the press on offical matters before, it can be somewhat intimidating if you're not used to it. The potential to garble your message is very great, unless you extensivly prepare your statement.

What a bunch of buffoons. Some scumbag shoots his dream girl at a school 1,000 miles away, and all campuses go on alert?
Then the doofus guard cranks a round off?

Not only that, but the print media will mess it up anyway. Or give it a spin that you hadn't intended, making it seem as if you were saying something entirely different.
