Name recognition generally trumps reason.

I get the feeling that if a politician named “Charles Manson” ran for President, he would get at least 25% of the vote based on name recognition alone.

The US electorate is so collectively dumbed-down at this point, I don’t see how we survive it. A Republic requires an informed, moral electorate, both of which we are losing at a rapid rate. I admire the goal of FreeRepublic to reverse the trend, but with decades of government schools brainwashing children, I just can’t see it.

If somebody can show me some evidence or some method to make the great body of people both informed and moral, I will be more than willing to listen. I want NOTHING, absolutely nothing, more than I want to be hopeful about the future of America but I do not see a trend that leans toward hopefulness. I see a dumbed-down, morally relative populace offering more power to the US central government in exchange for more and more entitlements.
