Obama's NASA Disgrace
Houston Chronicle ^ | February 28, 2010 | Editorial staff

Posted on 02/28/2010 9:26:48 AM PST by raptor22

Except in wartime, there has never been another government program that produced as much technological innovation as the U.S. space program, and there likely never will be. No other program has so successfully infused the economy, rallied the nation, inspired youngsters toward academic achievement or established the U.S. as the world leader in technology.

In spite of this, on Feb. 1, President Barack Obama announced the cancellation of the Constellation program of exploration, leaving NASA, for the first time in history, without a specific mission. It is as if President Gerald Ford had canceled the space shuttle program in 1975, just as the last Apollo mission was being flown. The shuttle orbiter development was well under way at the time, but that did not save us from a six-year gap before the next American was launched into space.

Today there is no realistic successor for human spaceflight waiting in the wings.

Actually, Florida went for Obama in 2008 by about 200,000 votes.

NASA should be allowed to choose its own mission as it does with unmanned projects. W's lame attempt at another Moon program was the latest example of destructive meddling by politicians.

Really. What do you think "NASA" would have chosen if they'd had their druthers?

Youre right, mea culpa, although he lost much of the State and has certainly written it off for the next set of elections. His attempt at replacing some money lost with high speed rail is an attempt to mitigate the damage.

Still, hes made no secret of favoring union workers, and will now have thousands of NASA govt employees doing virtually nothing. Perfect emblem of Obamaworkfare.

Do not despair! The Verne and Von Braun paradigms are petering out to be replaced by Von Neumann's! This will be a very good thing!

Advanced technology will save the day.

Instead of hypotheticals, why don’t you look at the unmanned missions chosen and accomplished by “NASA”?

Well it had to happen sooner or later, we’ve run out of private sector jobs to out source so now it’s the government jobs we’re out sourcing, to Russia of all places where we’ll be paying them to send manned missions to the spacelab.

As an aside this is one of the few decisions that O has made that I agree with. I work in the space industry and there is no real benefit from any manned missions. They are hugely expensive and don’t yield anything that couldn’t be done with an unmanned mission. Also, space and technological innovation are a joke, most technology used in space is at least one or two generations behind commercial technology because of all the testing and qualification required before it can be used in space.

Check out the article on page 4 of the San Jose Astronomical Assoc. newsletter.

The O-bot author tries to spin the zero’s NASA moves as positive. He also takes a swipe at Bush in the process.

This is typical of the drivle in this newsletter and the reason why I did not renew my membership with them.

At night through a good telescope, you’ll be able to see the ChiComs on the moon. Maybe they can bring our flag back.

Nasa should be militarized, privatized or taken over by the states. There is nothing in the constitution that justifies a “really cool hobby” at the federal level.

Hiding in plain sight.

He is shutting down our space program and directing NASA to funnel the money to Muslim countries, starting with Indonesia (where he is going on “vacation.”

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_space_thewritestuff/2010/02/nasa-plans-more-outreach-to-muslim-countries.html

NASA plans more outreach to Muslim countries

(per a directive from obama)

In addition:

Hillary Clinton
Remarks at the U.S.-Islamic World Forum
Doha, Qatar
February 14, 2010

President Obama and I believe that education and innovation are the currency of this century. That’s why he announced a new era of engagement with Muslim communities to expand educational opportunities, support entrepreneurs, and promote advances in science and technology.

Our goal is to identify excellent ideas and successful projects in Muslim communities and then invest in them, help to scale them up, and to connect innovators and entrepreneurs, so that they can support and enhance each other’s work.

We are creating a Global Technology and Innovation Fund, which we will launch this spring, that will provide hundreds of millions of dollars in capital to small and medium-sized businesses throughout the Middle East, Asia, and Africa . . .

We have to continue to expand and strengthen outreach to students. And that is why we have increased funding for educational exchange programs for Muslim students. NASA, our space program, has partnered with the Arab Youth Venture Foundation in Dubai to give Arab and American engineering students the chance to work together on NASA missions.

****************************

and so the redistribution of money out of OUR pockets kicks into high gear. (and the redistribution of jobs - thousands of Americans will loose their jobs - as the money and jobs are given to Muslims around the world...(creating more Irans) not to mention the technology to boost their goal of reestablishing the Caliphate.)

This traitor in chief stated his goal of redistribution before he was elected...it’s the prime tenet of the Black Liberationists churches, one of which he sat in for 20 years.

http://www.floridatoday.com/content/blogs/space/2010/01/boeing-lays-off-36-workers.shtml

"Some 7,000 space industry workers will lose their jobs by the time the shuttle program ends, causing the loss of 14,000 public sector jobs and raising the unemployment rate to near 15 percent in Brevard."

Oh, yes there is. Except that it's Chinese, and Russian.

Obama doesn't hate space programs -- just American space programs, because they're American.

No, he cancelled NASA moon mission because most of the work was done by non- Union contractors from States he lost in the last election; Alabama, Florida, Texas, Utah. 23,00 lost jobs in Florida and 3000 in Utah, alone.Everything with this thug is about payback and payoff.

Correct. He and his staff also made sure a Houston-area company, BAE (formerly Stewart & Stevenson), lost the contract to produced the heavily armored trucks (MRAPS) used by the Armed Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. The contract was steered to a company in Wisconsin (Russ Feingold's state, and a "battleground" state). Pure, 200% payback.

The only one you missed is their blatant shilling for that Guy at the Goddard Space center in MD.

When the e-mail thing broke that did a long story about how GW/CC was settled science.

MAYBE they have awaken to the fact that Houston is in danger of becoming an economic disaster with the attacks on NASA and big OIL. But they are a day late and a dime short.
Still backing Dums.

Yes, but Houston is building the biggest, tallest abortion facility in the world on the Gulf Coast Highway. The abortion super-center.
