The House Fish, Wildlife & Water Resources Committee is currently considering H. 484, which could potentially ban the sale and use of virtually all ammunition in Vermont.
The bill would require the Secretary of Natural Resources to set up a program to identify and ban the distribution of certain toxic chemicals. Even the Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation indicated recently in testimony before the committee that the enactment of this legislation could outlaw the ammunition you use for hunting, plinking, or self-defense. In addition to the bills potential to ban ammunition, the sweeping nature of H. 484 could easily implicate any number of products used by gun owners and sportsmen, such as cleaning solvents and materials.
Due to an outpouring of opposition, new language is being circulated that could eliminate the concerns of gun owners and sportsmen. NRA-ILA is currently evaluating the language and will let you know if the new version of the bill will affect gun owners.
Please continue checking your email and www.NRAILA.org for updates on this matter.

My thoughts exactly.
I went to college in VT ...
Hunting is a rite of passage into manhood there - if the legislature bans ammo, theres gonna be an uprising ...
It’s not possible for Vt to kill the use of firearms in their state. Vt’s entire law would have to be rewritten as 180º from what it is now.
For one, they have reciprocity with most of the rest of the States. If that wasn’t rewritten, banning lead would be futile.
Two, no one in VT is required to have firearms licenses. They would have to register everyone.
It’s not possible. Not in our lifetime.
UPDATE ON H484
Due to the lobbying efforts of Gun Owners of Vermont and other pro-gun groups of Vermont and due to all the phone calls from concerned gun owners throughout the state,H484 has been amended to provide an exemption for lead products pertaining to hunting and fishing.(Originally this bill proposed to require the secretary of natural resources to establish a toxic chemical identification and reduction program in which lead could have been targeted.)
Another disturbing feature of H484 was found on page 7 stating that if a certain chemical is banned in another state then it automatically becomes law here. This was also changed to read "it could be recommended" that Vermont would do the same.
Once again, thank you to all who took the time to call Montpelier. Phone calls make a difference!!

This type of legislation has been defeated every time. there have been 11 other states attempting this and they have failed in the courts, who hold these laws surreptitiously violate the 2nd amendment.
Worrisome? Sure, but it will be defeated if enacted.
