Transformation (Free Republic Ahead of National Review)
National Review Online: Corner ^ | February 27, 2010 | Andrew McCarthy

On Sean's panel last night, when the conversation turned to how nervous Democrats supposedly are over what for now is teeing up like a very bad November, I felt like I was channeling Mark Steyn, Mark Levin and Rush. That is, I think our side is analyzing this all wrong: Today's Democrats are controlled by the radical Left, and it is more important to them to execute the permanent transformation of American society than it is to win the upcoming election cycles. They have already factored in losing in November — even losing big. For them, winning big now outweighs that. I think they're right.

If Andrew has been reading Free Republic a couple of months ago many Freepers have been saying the same thing; Pelosi is willing to go down in flames in November if that is the price to be paid for passing Socialized Healthcare. Perhaps these regular reporters have been following Inside the Beltway stuff for so long they all thing it is some sort of game. (Sort of like Stalin was shocked when Hitler invaded Russia. If he read Mein Kampf he would of know that was Hitler's plan from day one when he took power)

It is for certain that Andy hasn’t been listening to Rush, because Rush has been hammering this for months.

Once the government takes over health care, we are DOOMED. A huge vacuum cleaner will suck up every dollar and individual freedom in our once great land.

And who’s to say the issue is an automatic loser for the Dems? Every Democratic ad will say “I fought for free health care. The Republicans blocked it!”

It’s hard to beat someone who’s handing out freebies.

Our nation, for all its Tea Party protests, still loves its entitlements.

Most of the bill is unconstitutional. Flatly illegal.

As such, the Republicans should physically stop passage of the bill. Literally disrupt the Senate as long as necessary to prevent a vote. Chaos if necessary. I believe it to be the Constitutional duty of every Senator that knows this “bill” is unconstitutional.

Forget “parliamentary procedure and rules”. This is nothing less than a despotic takeover of the Republic, and should be treated as that.

It is a communist insurrection. Period.

Americans will reject their DeathCare and will not give up their medical treatment to the State. IMO, this bill is their final solution for whomever Big Brother wishes to destroy. It’s that evil.

I don't believe Politicians care more about passing an agenda than getting reelected. Many of the worst Democrats have been in office a long time and are totally rotten and the newly elected are quickly corrupted. Maybe there are some who care more about the agenda, but most of them care more about their offices.

If this happens and if Republicans take majority in both houses, they will have to vote a repeal (use reconciliation to repeal it). Let Obama veto it.

Then, Republicans can modify every budget to defund the programs and eliminate the tax increases. It will be part of the omnibus budget, so if Obama vetoes it, the government shuts down.

As long as Obama is on record opposing the repeal, it will be difficult to pin the government shutdown on Republicans who fund everything except the healthcare program.

“Literally disrupt the Senate as long as necessary to prevent a vote.”

What, bring back dueling to the Senate? That would slow things down quite a bit.

Guess these crooks will have to lose their pensions and go to jail. They really need to go to jail.

Correct. We'll see if our side is up for it.

Small good transformation is if you PO so much of the population as to put yourself into a permanent and deep minority. Soon your transformation becomes the other sides coronation.

I have been feeling the same way for some time now.

I'm convinced that many of these conservative pundits data mine FR for ideas to write and talk about. There are only a handful of them that stay ahead of the FR knowledge and prediction curve through original thought.

Actually, I was thinking left wrists tied together. Each dueler with a Bowie knife in the right hand. Kind of a backdoor term limit.

Once the government takes over health care, we are DOOMED.

And don't forget our current hollow-out military will shrink by 50% or more and American will stop policing the world. Health care will put the United States on a fast trajectory to the trash bin of history.

The huge cost of health care is one reason why European nations can barely scrounge up a platoon to fight the war in Afghanistan. Even if the Eurosocialists wanted to help us fight the war, they can’t afford it.
