The presence of one of the world's pre-eminent environmentalists at Apple's shareholder meeting Thursday was the subject of much of the morning's pointed discussion.
As expected, Apple's attitude on environmental and sustainability issues was one of the main concerns of the stockholders present Thursday, followed closely by the company's immense pile of cash. But early harsh comments about former Vice President Al Gore's record set the tone.

(Credit: Josh Lowensohn/CNET) Gore was seated in the first row, along with his six fellow board members, in Apple's Town Hall auditorium as several stockholders took turns either bashing or praising his high-profile views on climate change.
At the first opportunity for audience participation just several minutes into the proceeding, a longtime and well-known Apple shareholder--some would say gadfly--who introduced himself as Shelton Ehrlich, stood at the microphone and urged against Gore's re-election to the board. Gore "has become a laughingstock. The glaciers have not melted," Ehrlich said, referring to Gore's views on global warming. "If his advice he gives to Apple is as faulty as his views on the environment then he doesn't need to be re-elected."

I agree: environmentalism is a cult and Pastor Gore is Chief wWorshiper.
....it’s good that people can scoff out loud at Gore...not that long ago he was the god of global warming.
This story makes me feel soiled. I fold my Macbook in shame and slink from the room.
Well good for Mr. Ehrlich! It takes courage to talk against the Gorebot, esp. in front of so many of his supporters.
At least he said what had to be said, regardless of the outcome of the election.
Al's reelection good reason not to own an Apple
really ? - and your ibm clone running Gates software, or your car company has little to do with politics...what about your cable company...or bank?
I have an apple because it is technologically superior to the IBM clone, & the software works flawlessly
I choose not to live in the 1800's using oil lamps and quill pens

fyi - my boot up was about 20 seconds this morning - i was reading FR while you were still waiting for the cooling fan to start spinning
“I could not stop laughing after the first sentence of “one of the world’s pre-eminent environmentalists “ was read.” How you can tag a politician with zero scientific knowledge or education as a scientist is beyond me.”
Mr. ‘Environmentalist” who lives in a mansion in the most exclusive suburb of Nashville and travels in his own private jet.
Now I am laughing at another Worshipper at the altar.
Don’t worry, you have a few followers who crave the companionship of fellow zealots.
And by the way, cussing on this is not too cool.
>”what a dumb assed comment
Al’s reelection good reason not to own an Apple”
I would disagree with your comment. As discussed in a previous thread, even if an Apple computer was something I’d want to purchase, I still wouldnt because Gore sits on the board. Just as I choose not to support Google (because he sits on the board of that too). I do not have the ability to vote on a ballot whether or not Gore sits there, but I can vote with my money, and sometimes, that voice is the loudest heard.
“But....the emperor has no clothes.”
Thank You Shelton Ehrlich
I was seriously considering purchasing a Macbook when I return to the states. Hmmmmm.
Though I’m in the states, I also said my next PC (soon) was going to be an Apple, not any more after reading this article !!! These damn green freaks can make it with out my support.
This is the only way to get their attention, hit’em in the wallet.
Microsoft... We put the MS in MSNBC.
“These damn green freaks can make it with out my support.
This is the only way to get their attention, hitem in the wallet.”
Anyone got a list of the most environmentally conscience comnpanies out there like Apple who have gone overboard?
I am wanting to ensure I avoid them if I can, and a list would sure help.
Their “environmentalism” is a religion. No need for scientific credentials.
20 seconds? Wow thats really slow.
I agree. I’m not going to avoid a superior product just because a bunch of techno geeks are lacking in common sense.
btt
I have owned an iMac (or Apple) for over 20 years (long before gore was on the board). I have had pcs, but I like the ease of use of my Mac.
