I would love to choose my child’s school. That’s all.

What is preventing you from doing so? Have you gone over to the home of your local school board member and let them know this? How about your local govt. representative?

As "Tip" O'Neal once said - all {real} government is local.

...only 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans.

Only? Nice try to spin, CNN. They really think people are so stupid. While the "only" may be to modify the 37% of Dems the sentence is constructed to read that a solid majority of voters believe that government is a danger to their basic individual rights.

The many speeches by all stripe of politician invoking "the American people" as the sacred source of political power have taken on a mocking ring for many of us.
"The People! The People is a great beast!" (A. Hamilton)
"It has become an operating maxim; survival in office requires a political strategy for herding "the beast" in harmless directions or deflecting it from serious matters it may not understand. Now and then, to the general dismay of political office holders and elites, Hamilton's "beast" breaks loose and tramples the civility of the regular order. . . " (from W. Greider's "Who Will Tell the People")

Do the "tea parties" in their purest form ring true here?

And has the "Tea Party" movement been co-opted by those "political entities and elites" when they stand before us and with their hand at their vest, pronounce the movement as "good for the American People"?

Will the "American People" remain awake, or be yet again be mis-directed or deflected from what needs to be done?

Been saying pretty much this on another thread this morning. Especially the ‘’it is the right of the people to alter it or abolish it and institute new government’’ part and been getting slammed for it.

". . . and been getting slammed for it.

The "radicals" (1765 - 1775) faced the same thing. As a percentage of the total population, they represented less than .01%. The other 99.9% either didn't even know or care about "independence" from Great Britian, or were dead set against it.

The 0.01% won.....because they were right.

Thank you. It’s never easy to be in a minority of thought. The hurdles the Founders faced would have daunted anyone but they hung in there.

"Founders" indeed! They were "scribblers", printers, silversmiths, politicians, and a host of other occupations. Some were English, some not.

They created without knowing - until the very last minute - what exactly it was they were creating.

Once the "die was caste", they had little choice but to proceed...or be captured then hung for treason.

Quite an "encourager", no?

Wow, that’s pretty big news ... seems to be being buried.

I guess those Tea Partiers were on to something, right Nancy/Reid/Obama ?

“Will the “American People” remain awake, or be yet again be misdirected or deflected from what needs to be done?”

One, well said, all of this post and the one after it. I was beginning to think most all were sheep. And because of that I also believe they will be deflected as soon as they feel appeased. Our once great country is broken from the floor up and few will be willing to take that on....
