“It is disingenuous to imply...”

First, “disingenuous” means insincere or lacking in candor. You aren’t in a position to know whether the comment was disingenuous. Second, I didn’t “imply” those things; I stated them expressly. Third, my comment was based on reading some news reports, not one of the versions of the proposed legislation, the legal status of any of which at this time I don’t know.

We agree that there is no reason for Ugandans to care what we think.

Has the bill been passed? Are there different versions?

“CPAC 2010:

Homosexuals

Grover Norquist islamists

The Mitt Romney GOP

Ron Paulistas

That’s not conservatism. That’s a freak show. “

It doesn’t seem broad to me...it seems very focused.

The law prescribes life imprisonment for any type of gay sex, and execution for “serial offenders” of the crime of homosexuality...

Well, no...read it again.

I didn’t “imply” those things; I stated them expressly.

I disagree. You said:

As I recall, the Ugandan law calls for execution for sodomites who deliberately spread AIDS and sodomite child rape. The law doesn’t call for execution for sodomites in general.

What you said is pretty much true. However, the law does call for life imprisonment for "sodomites in general." So while EXECUTION may only be applied in the cases you specify, the law still PERTAINS to ordinary homosexual sex. You stated the former, but I thought you implied the opposite of the latter.

Maybe your comments weren't disingenuous. But some posters have made comments like yours to suggest that anyone who is is disturbed by the proposed Uganda law must be in favor of "spreading AIDS and sodomite child rape."

The law disturbs me not because it calls for executing those who intentionally spread HIV and those who have sex with minors. Those are horrible crimes that deserve severe punishment. The law disturbs me because it calls for life imprisonment for any and all homosexual activity, and 7 years imprisonment for "aiding and abetting homosexuality."

Kahonek only posted the section of the law pertaining to the death penalty. The previous section calls for life imprisonment for anyone convicted of homosexual sex.

It has not yet been passed. The version I quoted is the one that was introduced.

Third, my comment was based on reading some news reports

The news reports focus on the death penalty aspect for the shock value. They probably aren't doing themselves any favors by omitting facts if they're trying to stir up outrage. I find the section calling for life imprisonment for any and all homosexual sex far more outrageous than executing child abusers and those who spread HIV.

I applauded nothing.

I commented on my recall, nothing more.

Should I assume you’re applauding homosexuality?

No, I don’t think so.

Please allow me the same courtesy, thank you.

I do not understand how anyone could applaud this [Uganda laws and punishment against homosexuality]. I find it disgusting.

Aside from the fact that you either had friends that chose the homosexual lifestyle while you were at Haaaaaavard, and/or have a beloved relative that has done the same, (why else would you defend that lifestlye?), we need to look at the subjective word "disgust" (1.to cause loathing or nausea in. 2.to offend the good taste, moral sense, etc., of; cause extreme dislike or revulsion in).

Being that God is the ultimate moral authority on all issues, let's discuss how He feels about homosexuality (to save valuable internet ink, I'll tell you that He sees it as an "abomination" (intense aversion or loathing; detestation. a vile, shameful, or detestable action, condition, habit, etc.).

Putting aside the One that gives us the ultimate truth for a minute, let's talk secular(more in your league I'm sure; as their probably weren't a lot of Christians at Haaaavard, and their definitely aren't true Christians that are practicing homosexuals).

Back to the word "disgust".

I find it absolutely "disgusting" that the disease ridden (I have statistics if you want), promiscuous (more statistics, your's for the asking), deviant (my oh my are they deviant) homosexual lifestyle has gone "mainstream" and literally "invaded" valuable American institutions such as marriage, the nuclear family, the military, organized religion, public education, and of course youth mentor groups (the thought of going on overnight campouts with 12 year old Boy Scouts under the guise of "Scout Master" must drive many a homosexual wild).

Whether Uganda should give a crap what I think is a different matter.

Let's hope that Uganda doesn't give a "crapola" what America thinks in general on this issue, as we as a nation are in no position to preach God's moral truth to anyone.

You write a lot and say little.

Do you approve of a law prescribing life imprisonment for consensual, adult sex between two men or two women?

I made a mistake. I included everyone who was discussing the Uganda law, but that “applaud” comment wasn’t intended for you.

The small point first. “Imply” means to indicate by inference, association, or necessary inference. Saying that I “recall X” from a news story doesn’t involve implication. It is a direct statement of a proposition.

Now, as for the more important issue, I didn’t realize (note, I am not implying ;-) that the proposed law had a provision that gave 7 years for aiding and abetting homosexuality or that in some circumstances there are provisions for life sentences.

By the way, I was not intending to “imply” that you were in favor of sodomite child rape or spreading AIDS.
