I will comment that Pournelle is the *only* commentator who was against invading Iraq from before the invasion that I respect. Don’t stop reading because you think he’s not a conservative; his credentials are solid.

Jerry is right on the money about Turkey. Attaturk set up the government with the army as the guardian of the secular constitution. Any time the generals determine it is in danger of being subverted, they have the duty to topple the government.

I check his website regularly. He had a very logical and substantiated reason for opposing both gulf wars.

Mustafa kemal was the first role model for 20th century GENOCIDE in the 20th century. Hitler learned how to destroy as many people as possible in the shortest time by following kemal’s procedures.
