Obama Threatens to Advance Health Care Reform Without GOP Support

WASHINGTON - President Obama ended Thursday's daylong White House summit with a bang, threatening to push for passage of health care reform without Republican support if a bipartisan agreement remained out of reach.

"If we're unable to resolve differences over health care, we will need to move ahead on decisions," he said, alluding to using reconciliation, a controversial maneuver that prevents a GOP filibuster by requiring only 51 votes to pass legislation.

Obama added that if voters are unhappy with results, then "that's what elections are for."

Obama thanked the three dozen lawmakers who participated in the summit, though the meeting didn't appear to bridge the differences between the two parties.

Republicans remained adamant that their incremental approach reflected the will of the people and wouldn't break the bank while Democrats insisted that sweeping health care reform was the only way to fix the system.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader John Boehner, Sen. John McCain, and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl arrive at the Blair House, across the street from the White House in Washington, Thursday,

...more than 30 million people who are now uninsured.

My money's on over 1/2 of this number being those bent on raping America's economy as illegal trespassers.

"uninsured" in the sense that they don't pay for their own health care, but they STILL get it.

an enormous part of health care cost is the illegal alien problem which somehow NEVER gets talked about.

How come Republicans didn’t say “my way or the highway” when they controlled Congress?

Watching Reconciliation happen will at least be amusing. GOP will try to invoke the Byrd Rule, the Dems will twist themselves into pretzels to justify ignoring it, the GOP will then try to shut down EVERYTHING else that the Senate is slated to do this term.

It's not politcally correct to talk about the American children that are losing state healthcare, mental healthcare, and educational dollars due to a rapid overgrowth of los amigos con no documentos.

This push is to ensure that they have a future crop of voters, but there is certainly more. There will come a point at which they no longer need to insure a voter base, if this is allowed to continue.

When government provides everything, from electricity to water and sewage service to food to health care, then government becomes indispensable. When government becomes indispensable because it provides basic services, government has absolute power. There lies our current regime's target: to become something without which the vast majority can live.

Government schools are dumbing down our youth and throwing once-essential skills out the window. They're pushing “everyone is the same.” They're pushing conformity. They're lowering expectations so that no one has to strive to succeed, as long as they feel good doing it.

They preach multiculturalism so that people forget from where they came. Political correctness has effectively circumvented the first amendment. Rampant regulation is quickly moving to circumvent the second amendment. Pushing their homosexual agenda, if allowed to continue, will begin to lower population numbers to more easily controlled levels.

This will not end well.

When do you suppose We The People will actually storm the capital and move on over to the WH?
This is almost enough to spur on the lynch mob mentality out of sheer frustration. I can almost see a Revolutionary war on the horizon.

Republicans, after 40 years as minority, did not know how to behave like the majority and the dems, to their credit, never gave up the idea that they are the majority even when they were not.
Plus the republicans have this notion of behaving like gentlemen and gentle ladies...which is rubbish. They went to a gunfight with a butter knife and then wonder why they lose!
