The Obama administration criticized Israel Wednesday for designating two shrines on Palestinian territory as national heritage sites.
The criticism came as Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said she hopes long-stalled peace talks between Israelis and the Palestinians will resume. Clinton told a congressional committee that groundwork is being laid to restart the talks with the help of U.S. envoy George Mitchell.
She didn't say exactly when the negotiations might resume but her remarks come amid a flurry of U.S. diplomatic activity in the region.
They come as the United States, Russia and their Mideast peace partners are trying to organize a strategy session among top diplomats in the Russian capital next month to prod the two sides to relaunch the negotiations.
"We hope that that will commence shortly," Clinton told the Senate Appropriations Committee, referring to Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. "We think it is absolutely necessary that they begin to talk about the final-status issues that divide them, that have perpetuated the conflict over all of these years."

go away Hussein
However, for those of us who may not know this, during the time the Muslims occupied the Holy Land, Jewish and Christian holy sites were routinely desecrated and vandalized. Even in this day, the a-rabs tried to turn the Tomb of Joseph into a mosque, among other atrocities.
I applaud and thank Israel for taking action to preserve important parts of our history, and I hope and pray that Israel does everything it can (and I do mean everything) to protect holy sites from anyone who would want to destroy them.
Early destruction of Joseph's Tomb by Arab terrorists.
Then Joseph's Tomb, rerestored by Israel.
Joseph's Tomb, after the Arab and Palestinian terrorists
resavaged the site for the US State Dept and Islam.
Disgusting savages.
what’s up with this “peace talks” thing? it seems that unless both sides want “peace” such talks are a waste of time and effort. it appears that the palis only want to destroy, kill and decivilize. the palis need abjectly defeated, then they might want “peace”. until then, such efforts are an exercise in insanity.
The Muslims are constantly “claiming” sites within Israeli territory but somehow Bambi seems to think that’s fine.
Everyone knows the real bible is not the Tannakh or the New Testament for Christians, but "The Communist Manifesto" and "Das Kapital" for everyone! /s
In defiance, I hope Israel tears down the Dome of the Rock and builds the new 3’rd temple.
Amen! Thank you, Israel!
Obama needs to put his big-girl panties on and be an adult. It is not his business. I thought everything in the middle east was designated “the holy city of” somewhere.
The U.S. doesn’t slam Israel. Only the Islamist-in-Chief and his band of merrymen.
Nice correction! I wish more people read with the same razor-sharp acuity that you possess. We’re so used to platitudes and misleading headlines that we rarely notice errors as gross as this one any more.
Hussein, you are shaping up to be at best an enabler. My guess is, before you are done you will be revealed to be a Haman. Amalek always loses.
It is ironic that this comes from a State Department run by a woman whose husband declared hundreds of "national heritage sites" in Utah in order to place US low sulphur coal off-limits to mining. This removed the US from competition with his buddies/donors, the Riady's, for sale of coal to China's massive coal fired electrical generating plants.

Excellent observation BwanaNdge. Too bad our country is currently run by moral relativists or worse amoralists. The philosophy of doing or saying anything that will make the day mine takes narcisism and ego to a level that is particulary unpalatable. One wonders if there is anything particularly important and meaningful to these people outside of their lust for secular immortality? The bigger they see themselves the smaller they become. Envy, ego and denial of guilt is an ugly combination to map ones existance.
My thought exactly.. good to see this point made.
Utah, as in Utes.
